Obviously, both wine and time is against my typing skills - *continuing not counting…. I will take this error to my grave.

bizarre things that happened in your assembly: I remember one time, at a particularly unusual assembly, somebody said something that was both relevant and interesting.

Devastating but understandable news! Good luck to you both on your counting efforts to bring mirth and merriment to a tough old world.

HELP! : I know I know the name of this fine piece of music that me and my son have stuck in our heads but my middle aged brain can’t access it… it goes: Ba dum dum dum, ba dum dum dum, ba dum dum dadadadadaaa da dum. ba dum dum dum, ba dum dum dum, ba dum dum dadadada daaaaaa da dum. Ba dum.

Great musician and a great songwriter - sorely underrated just because it’s seen as “pop” I think…. (It’s also very high on my list of “songs I’d like to sing with my band, would definitely murder but would still like to sing anyway”)

I love doing my quizzes : partly it’s the fun of writing the questions and delivering them to the audience and because it’s essentially a very tiring 2.5 hours of unpredictable crowd work & improv with a very broad audience of hyper-critical people. Makes me want to go back to stand up every time.

Revectorists? (Sounds too much like a hardcore Adobe illustrator course) Detectorenge? (art installation replica of Stonehenge out of smoke detectors symbolising our pagan fear of fire?) Revenge Detectors? (pretty sure this is on Channel 5, 8pm Wednesdays starring Jill Halfpenny) I give up.

Typically for you, it’ll turn out everyone else was raking in the cash for appearing and it was just you that didn’t get paid… did they promise you that sweet Goodnight Sweetheart revival commission?

I secretly love it when my toddler breaks one of the older boys Lego sets and I have to work out, without instructions, how it all goes back together. it’s the most zen I feel on any given day (Apart from when I’m building a huge marble run and feeling like a plastic wielding Kingdom-Brunel).

Now I’m thinking a limited series audio sketch show podcast made with no budget and no idea how to make it happen is sounding like the kind of fun but insane challenge I like…. 🤣 It just requires time, talent, money and energy… bugger.

That Andy Poole @andycpoole.bsky.social · 18/03/2026
anyone think Sketch shows on modern platforms like YouTube or the streamers would work? Or (as I do) do you think they belong to “traditional” broadcasting? I just feel sketch shows are neither expensive & headline grabbing nor cheap underdog and sadly hit a sweet spot of perceived irrelevance.

I tried writing sketches years ago with a friend and very quickly realised how hard it is to write something that would be universally funny… but I did have one golden sketch that I’ve never forgotten! (Out of about 80 🤣)

But I guess it’s, as ever, down to the money - they aren’t expensive to make but they are a big risk not just for the production company/broadcaster/streamer but also for the people in it - a bad opening episode and you’ll be hated/bullied/derided across the internet.

That Andy Poole @andycpoole.bsky.social · 18/03/2026
You’d think they’d make more sense now than ever - Sketch shows are the televisual comedy equivalent of doomscrolling YouTube shorts/Insta etc - not everything will hit with you but you’re going to see something that you like in amongst the ones you don’t. Could be Very clippable and edgy.

I love audiobooks for non-fiction, but can’t stand them for fiction. For non-fiction, I find them boring on the page but engrossing as an audiobook - for fiction, I sort of drift away when listening as if the words on the printed page act as some kind of imagination anchor. I’m odd.

Top interview as ever - Enjoyed “WH” more than expected and, more than both of you. Beautiful to look at with great performances and an unexpectedly decent script but some heavy handed visual metaphors, occasional silliness and obviously, the whole story is utter bobbins. Nasty Clunes was great.

Watched “Wuthering Heights” yesterday ( I don’t understand some of the really sniffy reviews) but I had to try so hard to not shout out “You shut the fuck up Clem Fandango”… Great performances, especially the unexpected and very good Clem (Shazam Latin) and the excellent Martin Clunes.

It’s impossible to leave without passing through a “complaints” booth and, despite the terrible food, atrocious service, unexplained delays, abundant queues, awful value for money, overpriced beers and the fact that every single ride is called “Britty McBritface”, no one ever complains.

Not watching the show but love this piece - insightful and informative. Also, strangely inspirational in making one want to go and write something!

It’s weird that the far right could get completely unsuitable people elected by generating hysteria around an imaginary elite child trafficking ring, but a real one (involving that same guy) or a billionaire who’s running an AI child porn generating site is probably not worth making a fuss about.

At 20, a girl left me saying I was the kind of person that wanted to understand the light amongst the trees and that that wasn’t what she was looking for… she then gave me a mixtape of Nick Drake songs and left. I lost the girl but I got to keep Nick Drake so I think, ultimately, I won.

I have to admit Celebrity Traitors was a superb bit of tv and I enjoyed almost every minute! It had wit, charm and intensity despite the surface silliness of the premise and I think its success was really down to great bookings (what a cast!) and the authenticity of the cast. Terrific stuff.

Anyone who takes an innocent life intentionally and without true justification should be seen as a bad person by EVERYONE no matter your political leanings or which "team" you support. When did being sensible, kind, understanding, thoughtful and trying not to be biased become such a bad thing?

Equally, it's another milestone marking the dangerous current trend for polarisation, ignorance and knee-jerk responses that is increasingly pervading global society. We are ALL being ill-served by biased sources of information, overblown propagandists and grifting arses on both right and left. ...

no one should be shot and killed for their beliefs, values or public persona. It is another stark warning about the nonsensical firearm situation in the USA which, whilst part of their history, should, like so many things before, be reassessed to protect children and adults alike. ...

I knew I had to use this in some way. The names were too good to waste and the instant imagery such names conjured was so potent and valuable. I just had to come up with a way to do it; a fitting format or situation where it could be used, where they could be deployed.

I was talking about Dickens’ era writing once and conjured from thin air the example of a law firm called “Beltforth and Lambsworthy”. It has stuck in my head since. I immediately could see their offices, desks, clothes, faces, manner of walking, family. Everything.
