If you're working for a for profit media corporation, just get out. Now. Do something else. Anything else. The only people in for profit media now are in it to try to squeeze a few more dollars out of it before they kill it.

I feel like what PCA is doing is still being undervalued by everyone but stat-obsessed weirdos. The GAP between PCA and 2nd-place Shohei Ohtani is the same as what Ranger Suarez, Jake Bauers and Braxton Aschraft have done this year. Basically, PCA is a full All-Star level player better than anyone.

I know that for so many only October matters … but the fact that Tampa Bay and Milwaukee will be the first two teams to clinch postseason spots does point away from the whole “small market teams have no chance” narrative.

Brewers are gonna win 105 damn games or whatever it is and I'm still going to have to hear for the next 6 months that we need a salary cap because they can't compete.

None of these games are at all likely to affect the CFP race. That they're limiting this to those games is curious.

Arte Moreno bought the Angels in 2003 (the year after they won the Series) for $184 million. He then spent 23 years running them into the ground, let the stadium decay, wasted Trout and Ohtani, and sold for $4 billion. And the owners are crying poverty and threatening to kill baseball next year.

The amazing thing about this Dodgers thing is that many baseball fans actually seem to believe that "billionaire owner was committing massive financial fraud to boost his team" is an argument FOR giving the owners everything they want and not an argument that they are a bunch of lying liars.

Happy 10th birthday to an incredibly special boy. Even though the game itself was a bust, it was an amazing experience to get to treat you to your first Wrigley trip, Matthew. I love you.

Everyone loves this guy for lobbing shots everywhere but I'd submit a big talker who refuses to play anyone decent in the non conference represents literally everything bad about this stupid sport at the moment.

Every time I make the mistake of glancing through Facebook comments on a news article, it reminds me why that's such a bad idea. You are left thinking this species is much too stupid to deserve survival.

Unfortunately this means my fatwa against the Celtics is going to continue for a long time to come. I'm virulently anti-Celtics until they stop benefiting from Kevin McHale gifting his old buddy Danny Ainge KG in 2007.

Modern situations the framers didn't anticipate in a constitutional amendment, you say? Like, you know, the possibility of a one-shot primitive musket versus an automatic machine gun that can fire a gazillion bullets per minute? That kind of modern situation, Brett?

MLB is going to keep making this about 'competitive balance' when it's not. It's about taking money currently going to players and giving it to owners. That's it. I'm not buying the propaganda. Many already do, and many will. Hopefully enough don't that this doesn't go through.

It's funny how words can become indelibly linked in your subconscious with movie/TV scenes. For instance, I'll never not think of Jim Halpert when I hear the word "blurry." And in a much deeper cut, I'll never not think of You've Got Mail when I hear the word "Vancouver."

Such ridiculous whining from this guy all offseason. Say what you want about Notre Dame vis a vis last year's playoff, but you never once heard any loser talk about how if they'd played a tomato can instead of Texas A&M they'd have made it.

Newspapers didn't go under because it was 'too expensive' or 'didn't make money.' They went under because rich people took over profitable-but-not-profitable-ENOUGH businesses, slashed printing budgets, made deadlines earlier and produced crap like this.

Cubs offseason: Bregman (sucks, owed $175M next 5 yrs) Cabrera (gave up real assets, mediocre at best) Re-signed Shota (sucks) Tyler Austin (injured, will never play) Hunter Harvey (injured again) Hoby Milner (meh) Phil Maton (2Y/$14.5M to be worst in the pen) Has there ever been a worse offseason?

I really don't have much against the Brewers, but if they get rolled by the Dodgers in October again and I hear their fans whining for a salary cap again afterwards I'm going to want to roundhouse kick them all.

Sometimes I wonder what I'll tell my son when he starts asking questions about the world. Because in a world where evil always seems to win, where people who do care get screwed over repeatedly by the people who don't care without consequence... I don't know.

Watched way too much baseball to assign much meaning to any April game, but rallying from 4 down in LA the day after winning your 9th straight - in extra innings - at home is pretty big time. And worth staying up way too late for. #FlyTheW

According to MacroTrends, Disney's annual gross profit in 2025 was up 9.17% over 2024, which was up 9.99% over 2023, which was up 4.86% over 2022. No amount is ever enough for the pigs running these companies.

In retrospect, I should've picked UConn to be the runner up. It would've fit better in my "everything always sucks" bracket than Duke. And it would've done even better, obviously.

By the way, I picked Michigan to win in my bracket knowing this was coming. I don't gamble on sports because I'm too broke and because I'm smart enough to know that I'm too stupid to be good at it. But this is one of those things I knew ahead of time and wish I had gambled on.

There are a ton of reasons I've lost the belief in karma, and one of the less important ones is that the B1G - and Michigan in particular - are just apparently great at every sport now. No entity has done more damage to college sports and yet they get to win at them all.

🏈 new newsletter 🏈 There are many issues with college football but it's become apparent that the biggest threat to what we love about it is Tony Petitti. How the Big Ten commissioner has become the sport's top villain: rakesreport.substack.com/p/rakes-repo...
“If you’re 6-3 in the Big Ten, I would argue that’s a great record, and if you stumbled in a nonconference game, I don’t know why that disqualifies you,” Petitti said at last year’s Big Ten media days. “8-4 as a winning percentage, if you project that winning percentage in every other sport, I’m pretty sure you make the postseason.”

Very cool, sir -- whatever you do, don’t look up a random Big Ten schedule and ask who the best wins would be if that program lost to the top three or four teams it faced. It somehow got worse from there. Petitti tried to sell off 10% of the league’s media rights to private equity, an idea so bad he made the Trojans and Wolverines look like heroes for throwing themselves in front of it. A Michigan congresswoman wrote to Petitti opposing the deal and then a month later a Washington congressman called Petitti a jackass and accused him of trying to buy votes for the SCORE Act. While I abhor blind fetishization of bipartisanship it should be noted that the two legislators are on opposite sides of the aisle, a disdain of Petitti’s machinations bringing them together.

This first round has featured two crimes against offensive football, one team self destructing to hand the game over to a team they previously beat, and two complete wastes of time. Hope you're all proud of yourselves, college football.

They used Notre Dame for outrage bait for 6 weeks. They flat out lied about their playoff positioning and then pulled the rug out from under them by invoking something they'd ignored the whole year. Now they're mad ND won't play into the script and allow them to profit off it. Screw them all.
