New episode archived @wfmu.bsky.social Pi Recordings: 25th Anniversary STREAM ▶️ wfmu.org/playlists/sh...
Pi Recordings, a NYC-based record label specializing in the crème de la crème of creative improvised music, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The label’s focus on established masters (e.g. Henry Threadgill, Roscoe Mitchell, Wadada Leo Smith) and newer musicians (e.g. Steve Lehman, Tyshawn Sorey, David Virelles) has propelled it to the top tiers of jazz music production. For a three-hour feature celebrating Pi Recordings’ quarter-century anniversary, the label’s producers (Seth Rosner and Yulun Wang) sat for an interview about Pi’s storied history.

But, as one Youtuber said... at least when you get the Dems in power you can yell at them and shame them into correcting their policies.

I keep thinking about this idea that all things media can be divided into cool and awesome. Awesome things have power, precision, it's competitive and seeks to achieve. While cool is slack, confident, and only aims to exist in the moment.

Went to London Ontario's Punk Rock Flea Fest and saw Bad Waitress and Sub Humans. Also caught parts of Bonnie Trash and Anti-Queens. The Flea Fest was impressive, stretching two blocks with a side street for a skate competition.

Black coffee only. The ice coffee is just not something I want to watch a stranger drink in front of me. Then before they shake you hand their wiping because their hand is covered in cup sweat.

WATCH: This morning, President Trump gave a 37-minute speech at the UN General Assembly that served up a medley of reheated leftovers and provocative threats. Watch three of his most alarming comments:

Trump's supposed deal to acquire potash from Belarus is pure tragicomic. Sask can ship potash to the states like it's takeout. But, Trump wants us to ignore the massive Rube Goldberg like shipping channel required to get Potash from the other side of the world, which is also hostile and unstable.

No, he really didn't. He has the same bias against Muslims that most neo-atheists have. His statement about the hi-jackers was just contrarian nonsense that only served to be insensitive toward the victims.

You really go the sense that he thought Christians and Jews were just silly crazy, while Muslims were dangerous and unreasonably crazy.

There is an insidious bias when it comes to the Palestine occupation. No doubt, in Bill's mind the idea that a Israeli might be may be in a situation where they feel threatened needs more attention than anything that a Palestinian might suffer... starvation, homelessness, death.

We went 6 weeks without a washer and then the coin slot was often full, or had a habit of eating coins. The lights were on a timer so.. time change meant pitch black hallways at one end of the day. But, yah the lights are out and you realize you can't order a pizza.

Ed Sheeran is playing the same hand that MAGA plays. He's picking a side but doesn't accept any of the consequences of enabling that side. We are talking about the very real consequence that a major artist has been silenced by a powerful lobby.

I always just assumed he was the industry's wettest blanket. Normally the gutless way would work but in this situation that kind of gutlessness is enabling genocide, and screwing over a friend. The world has already had enough of listening to people who 'care' but refuse to take responsibility.

I will say the same thing about pop vs country today that I said about pop vs rock in the 2000s. The pop is simply more interesting. That and modern country isn't about blue collar rough necks. It's about farm owners and people who dream of owning farms. Parking their truck by the lake.

Watching an old news program from the 90s covering "The Young Lyons" or Neo-Traditionalists (Christian McBride, Greg Hutchenson, Antonio Hart, Ryan Kisor, Roy Hargrove) with some asking are they too young, and some saying guys like Tony Williams are getting overlooked cause they're middle aged.

There's no effort or competition in a para-social relationship. You can share in their wins and those wins have no baring on you. On the other hand... knowing your neighbours can put you in your place. There is also the mess of being there and supporting the lives of others.

I remember the noise causing some kind of psychosis. Similar to the problems caused by wireless and 5G. In the same way they were obsessed with how they looked. We had a group here opposing a second small windmall on the mall. Cause apparenlty, that's what mad the mall an eyesore.

In the Napster era the nostalgia was all about the days when they sold singles, and how music sucked because you had to buy a CD with one maybe 2 good songs.

Andrew Waterloo @andrewwaterloo.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
Living next to the Eraserhead soundtrack was not one of the selling points. You can imagine what this would be like for people who complain about windmill noise, or humming and banging you hear when they start removing snow too early.

I think scarcity is also key. Stuff was harder to get and took longer to get. I owned CDs and tapes that required traveling to other cities, or ordering through catelogs. You'd take half your weekend seeing a friend who had a tape, video, or some other kind copy of something.
