Something soothing on a rough day... Long exposure wave (0.3 seconds) at Hvalnes, south-east #Iceland on a very stormy day in Feb 2020.
A black and white image of a slowed down crashing wave. There is white spray coming off it and white lines all along the wave. The sky is grey, and the surrounding sea is grey too.

It is at the base of icebergs where the magic happens. The deep blues of a small iceberg reflect in wondrous pastel tones off the gently undulating waters of Greenland's magnificent Scoresby Sund. #photography #nature #bluesky #naturephotography #landscapephotography #landscape

A photo of a waterfall in the distance falling in two stages between rocky slows, partly covered with moss. In the foreground the water flows quite calmly between little rocks and stones. Branches on the right side bring the colours of autumn into the scene - some leaves can be seen on the rocks too.

~Swirls~ Light and vegetation can produce a very impressionistic bokeh. A marbled white #butterfly [Melanargia occitanica] warming up after sunrise. #Canon EOS 5D Mark IV + Sigma 180/2.8 f/3.2, 1/200s, ISO-250, 180mm #naturephotography #photography #bokeh #macrophotography #insects #butterflies
A photo of a marbled white butterfly still roosting with its front wing a bit pushed out and the wings lit by the back light of the sun and shining through them. The bokeh looks swirly of the back light coming through all the wildflowers and vegetation.

This is “Oxide Riot” - oxides leaching through the walls of a slate quarry in the Highlands. It’s done well in competitions. I mix vistas, with intimate close ups of the land, maximising my trips. Abstracts: www.andymacd.co.uk/abstractions #landscape #photography #OutdoorPhotography #fineart
“Oxide Riot” has done well for me, even getting 2nd place in the 2019 Scottish Landscape Photography Awards. It displayed with the SNPA’s travelling exhibition and, as a square crop taking centre place in my display at the Lime Tree Gallery as part of an exhibition with the Society of Scottish Landscape Photographers.

It’s one of my personal favourite images - a 45 cm square crop on matt paper hangs on my wall as a reminder to look at what’s close up as well as the wider landscape.

My photography time is precious, so when I go out I rarely take the shot I came for and then go back home. Instead I shoot from dusk till dawn often even forgetting to eat, photographing everything that catches my eye, from vistas to studies, to close ups. As a result I come home with a variety of images and invariably one or two that I could never have foreseen.

If you look long and closely enough, there is beauty in everything around us - outdoor and landscape photography gives me the opportunity to remember that and take great pleasure in my time in nature.

Is there #wildflowerwednesday too? Wild growing liverleaves [Hepatica nobilis] - I really love their delicate shape. Canon EOS R5 + Meyer-Görlitz Trioplan II 100/2.8 + extension tube f/2.8, 1/250m ISO-100, 100mm #wildflower #naturephotography #canon #photography #bokeh #austria #trioplan

One of my favourite things to do is exploring the countless creeks and gorges in Austria - and to find beautiful places and conditions for photos. If you need a calming moment, stay here for some time. #Nature #FallColors #Austria #Photography #naturephoto #creek #naturephotography
A photo of a wild creek with the water flowing away from the viewer. It flows through rocks into the background - the rocks are partly covered with moss and colourful leaves. It's a kind of tiny gorge as the rocks to the left and right are two meters high. A fallen tree covered with moss crosses the rocks in the middle ground. The soft light of the afternoon shines into the backgound.

A rainy day at the beach. How I loved to be there. #photography #landscapephotography #landscape #canon #england #naturephotography #seascape #longexposure
A photo of a beach on a rainy day. In the foreground - occupying two thirds of the image, there are big egg-shaped stones on the sand to see. Their colors vary and they are partly covered by algae. Between them seawater meanders to the ocean in the background. Dark clouds cover the sky, but some sun sunrays cast light on the water and two islands in the far distance.

I love to visit this gorge in Austria in #autumn. It's known for its reddish water - especially after heavy rain falls (caused by iron and humic acid). Here there was a light rain all day and this brought out the colours even more. #Nature #Trees #FallColors #Austria #Photography #naturephoto
A photo of a beautiful gorge with a stream containing reddish water, surrounded by mossy stones and an old wall on the left. Many stones have colourful leaves on them. In the background there are trees to see. The stream continues under right into the viewer - as it was photographed from in the water. The water looks creamy from using a longer shutter time of 1.6 seconds.
