TV criminologist David Wilson, because he waves his hands about too much when he’s talking.
David Wilson: a man in his sixties with white hair and beard. He’s got his hands together as he talks.

Watching the new series of Mock the Week, and for some reason, I just felt a little twinge of happiness noticing that Mykola Pawluk is still working. One of those names that seems to have been around forever.

The Brigadier spends all of Season 7 calling Liz 'Miss Shaw', but she reveals in Inferno 7 that she has a doctorate and so she's more-properly 'Dr Shaw'. Is the Brig just being a completely misogynistic bellend throughout S7? #DoctorWho

It does strike me that if Richard E Grant had played Scream of the Shalka the way he's played Traitors, he could have been the Doctor in 2005

I’m currently deep into Shakespeare and Hathaway, and it’s absolutely glorious. Fairly run-of-the-mill cosy detective drama, but Jo Joyner and Mark Benton are fantastic together: they’re always adding little bits of business and doing gags with each other. You can tell they’re loving every second.

Last of the Summer Wine. Absolutely serious: in 1973, it’s one of the most well-observed, philosophical and funny series on telly. Brilliantly written. Men as bairns. Then after Foggy leaves and Uncle of the Bride it turns into formulaic ‘going downhill in a bath/sidecar/piano-on-wheels’ territory.

I am absolutely ready to watch the first episode of this, think it is exciting fantastic and exactly the sort of thing the series needs, then never watch any more of it and put The Aztecs on instead. #DoctorWho

Not wishing to argue, Andy - your B5 books were hugely influential back in the day! - but Straczynski has published his post-Pilot Season 1 draft notes in which Sinclair wasn't Valen... The original 'hole in your mind' stuff was about his future prophetic role as father of Delenn's half-human child.

If you only know later Summer Wine it seems remarkable that the Pilot episode contains the word 'orgasm'.

We shot this video for Summer Winos where we recreated shots from the Pilot, and it's impossible to make it look as grim. Holmfirth's too pretty!

The Pilot is full of that stuff: it's openly an working class ruffian, an aspirational Tory and a middle-of-the-road centrist saying things like, 'Now we're in an age of compassion. The world's full of folk hating folk for hating folk.'

It was important, but gradually: some of Bell's stuff is quite dark, initially. It's about the mid-80s when it seems to change, to my mind. It also loses videotape in the early 90s and gets generally 'gentrified'. But really, I think it's the ensemble cast / catchphrase structure that changes it.

It's startling how different it is. You know that first series of Red Dwarf where it's all grey and empty and they've nothing to do? Imagine that, in a wet, Yorkshire dale. And you know it's about old folk? Jane Freeman was in her 30s. Brian Wilde was in his 40s. They're all playing older.

It’s so nihilistic: they wander about that town, accursed with boredom and loneliness. Holmfirth is covered in 70s soot and the beautiful village nestled in the Holme Valley looks like hell. The librarian has the most chaste of erotic affairs. Nora Batty looks like she has a diet of lemons and coal.

Complete myth, I’m afraid: ‘a Minbari not born of Minbari’ isn’t even mentioned until early Season 3, which is when I reckon he had the idea for it. B Squared was originally going to be about a spin-off series with Sinclair on B4 in the near future. The last scene was going to be him fishing!

It's #dayofdredd today. I didn't read Dredd as a bairn and only got into it in my 40s, when @scarredforlife.bsky.social told me I should read them. I fell in love instantly: the Democracy stuff, Dead Man et al, and the America storyline, are some of the most important things ever. Fascism laid bare.
