Pi(e) day pi(e) facts: The guy introduced the Greek letter for pi was the father of the guy who discovered proto-Indo-European (PIE)
William Jones was born in London; his father William Jones (1675–1749) was a mathematician from Anglesey in Wales, noted for introducing the use of the symbol π. The young William Jones was a linguistic prodigy, who in addition to his native languages English and Welsh,[3] learned Greek, Latin, Persian, Arabic, Hebrew and the basics of Chinese writing at an early age.[4] By the end of his life, he knew eight languages with critical thoroughness.[5]

Lawyer: You don't regret that people might have lost income? Cavanaugh (DOGE): No, I think it was more important to reduce the federal deficit from two trillion dollars to close to zero. Lawyer: Did you reduce the federal deficit? Cavanaugh: No, we didn't.

If you'd like to see all the canceled NEH grants at variance with agency priorities that allegedly will fail to inspire your confidence in use of taxpayer funds, go explore impact.ach.org. Then contact your representatives about this outrageous cull.

Put aside what you think about the NEH. If Congress wants to debate and do this, it has the authority. Neither the President nor his unconfirmed appointee have any authority to do it by their own dictat.

Here's one example of how DOGE is hurting Americans (🧵) In 2022, I was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant. We had developed a remote recording app for our MI Diaries project, and researchers from other fields expressed to me that they could use st similar. mi-diaries.org

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.
