I'll start of with one (ideally two) sets of papers for L2 EMC. It'd be nice if I can get in touch with the folks behind this curriculum and bang out a few resources - @justmaths.bsky.social comes to mind!

One of my goals this school year is writing practice tests for Edexcel L2 Extended Maths Certificate. Frankly, one of the best syllabi I've ever read - and great assessments. Ofc teachers delivering AQA L2 FMC can pick and choose questions from these resources. #ALevelMaths #L2EMC #L2FMCert

I have quite a few questions on equations with surds. Most of them are overkill for most intents and purposes though, and I'd rather respect the beauty or surds simplification. Let me know if you'd like more questions like this.

There's another worksheet that's similar to this one on Variation Theory! Happy to post more questions like this. c:

Part 12, equations of circles. This part is much meatier than Part 11, and this is shown on TMUA papers. Students are GUARANTEED 1-2 questions on equations of circles, and these questions often make use of basic coord geo techniques in Part 11 as well. #ALevelMaths #TMUA #ESAT

Part 11, coordinate geometry. Coordinate geometry is usually interweaved in calculus and functions questions. Students have to be able to work on these problems quickly and accurately. #ALevelMaths #TMUA #ESAT

CAIE P1 pretty much covers the AS content, P3 covers A2 content, P2 covers a subset of P3 content. IGCSE Additional Maths is also worth looking into.

Highly recommend looking at recent P1 CAIE IAL papers for similar questions. c: IAL is often underutilised imho.

If you're looking for questions that don't come from past papers, look up South African NSC Maths Paper 2. These questions are taken from Nov 24, May/June 25 and Nov 25 series.

Part 3, surds and laws of indices for TMUA/ESAT candidates. Obligatory ping to @mathsjem.bsky.social - some extension for your Y10! 30 minutes is probably more appropriate than 25 to solve all the questions.

Part 2, polynomials and algebraic fractions. I tried to roughly organise them in order of difficulty - and limit each question to one or two topics only. Answers included.

I honestly don't know why they're against the idea so much. Both components are externally assessed (by the SEC) under supervision of the teacher. The MS isn't developed yet so all arguments re validity of the grading can go on the back burner. Not a fan of the "sequence investigation" though.

TZC, Question 6. This question could've been on SL but they made it HL only - because of the level of abstraction required? Can easily be used for TMUA/ESAT preparation. Algebraic manipulation can be challenging for many. IB has lots of questions in this style, so no surprises to teachers and Ss.

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
TZC, Question 11. Students can safely expect a sect B question on lines and planes on most series. This one is lovely because all the question parts are connected - the entire point of sect B is to assess sustained reasoning! (a)(ii) and (e) are nice. Love that the length of AN is given in (d).

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
TZA, Question 9 (last question in sect A) IB students are expected to use properties of dot and cross product in simple proofs. This kind of question is always poorly done. The use of "show that" allows most students to pick up at least one mark, and the strongest ones can answer part (c).

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
TZB, Question 10 (first question in section B) The IB does NOT go easy on students lol Part (a) considers one specific case of the problem. Part (b) is a lil tricky. Examiners need to look for fudging. Part (c)(ii) requires solving a trig equation using trig ids. Part (d) is the most interesting.

QUESTION DEEP DIVE The IB May 2026 exam pack is recently released. Some questions could use a bit more care, but there are some great ones on the papers as well. This is part 1 - AAHL Paper 1 across all 3 time zones. Analysis below. #ALevelMaths #AAHL

I always have to remind my students to set out the solution properly so I can award method marks. This is a big thing for IB where you find 8-markers left and right on exams. Probability distributions and proofs are usually problematic - it's hard to know where they pull the numbers from!

@sxpmaths.bsky.social @kerrydunton.bsky.social @ecrmaths.bsky.social et al. Hi y'all! I've written a series of worksheets aiming at TMUA/ESAT candidates, kinda analogous to Tyler Tutoring's worksheets but going a bit beyond. This is the first part on algebra. Answers included. #ALevelMaths

I'd suggest looking at mathshelper (first two screenshots). Alternatively I'd suggest looking at older A-level textbooks, eg Bostock and Chandler (1980). Ideally pre-2000 textbooks, there are barely any challenging questions in recent ones.

I'd also strongly recommend looking at Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths (or Singaporean O-level Add Maths) - they have very solid questions on modulus graphs. IB - Analysis and Approaches usually has good questions on this too, esp when combined with even/odd functions and definite integrals.

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Yeah, I've noticed this kind of question on Edexcel papers and occasionally IGCSE Additional Maths. Not as common for AQA or OCR afaik.

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
100% - this is absolutely crucial when dealing with more complicated functions. This is beyond the scope of A-level though - unless they're asked to find the area of the region bounded by a parabola/circle and a modulus function.

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
I'd say so, yeah. In some cases where graphing is too much of a hassle, algebraic route would be more efficient.

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
One can easily sketch the graph of y = |x-2| - 1. This question then becomes a Y13 question on modulus graphs, similar to past Edexcel papers. Key cases to consider: a = 1 and a = -1/2.

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Great practice for Y1 Term 1 students. c; A prime opportunity to emphasise the importance of sketches.

Definitely graphical in this case. Subtract 1 from both sides then play around with the various possibilities of a for y = a|x|.

After looking at quite a few TMUA questions, here are my takeaways: Circle questions - ALWAYS draw a diagram. Equations that are unlikely to have nice roots (esp "find the number of solutions) --> graphical method. Completing the square is frequently used, so always see if it's an option.

The T/F questions are organised by groups, the four statements are usually in ascending level of difficulty in the same context. Questions are all in French unfortunately. Eg 1 - consider a unit cube with G being the centre of mass of triangle BIK. Eg 2 - consider the function f whose graph of Cf.

Series D 2013: quite straightforward. Find the equation of AB then coordinates of A and B. HA is perpendicular to HB. C(4,1) or C(-1,6). Series D 2013 (Advanced): also straightforward: M lies on the line x = 1. Form an equation to find N and P. P(-1,3) or P(3,3).

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
Series B 2013: the first step is proving triangle BCH is isosceles, and thus BI is the perpendicular bisector of CH and the coordinates of C can be deduced. Similar triangles and vector methods will come in handy to find the coordinates of A. Tricky this one! C(-1,6), D(4,1) or D(-8,7).

Series A 2013 (Advanced): let the centre of the circle be C and the intersection of the tangents be M. The key is recognising CM is perpendicular to AB, and the equation of AB is x - y = 0. All that's left is similar triangles/Pythagorean theorem and basic coordinate geometry. Centre I(5,3).

Andrew @andrewmaths1.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
HINTS - SPOILERS ALERT Series A 2013: the key is recognising IC is parallel to DM and I is the midpoint of AC. If I has coordinates (a,b), one can form two equations in terms of a and b. B is the reflection of N about AC [simple proof]. BN is perpendicular to AC. Ans: C(1,-7) and B(-4,-7).
