parents with school age children are not and should not be the only ones who materially support public schools. property taxes of many people without children are appropriately directed to public schools. each of us should be pouring into these schools in our own ways (giving of our time etc...)

Watching the response to the NHJ article, I’m struck by how, when an unequal system becomes a problem for each family to manage, we focus on how they navigated it, scoring the private choice instead of demanding that the public system remedy the inequality.

The ads I see most often across platforms right now involve 30 wealthy monopolists arguing that baseball players should be paid less because the league they run and should promote isn’t fair to owners who pocket their revenue rather than invest. I’d sure love to support a players league someday.

Adding: this is one reason conservatives work so hard to stigmatize "virtue signaling." Virtue signaling is actually incredibly important! It lets other people know that they are not alone in their values. It works against pluralistic ignorance. That's why they want you to feel abashed & stay quiet.

I’ve been a Phoenix Suns fan for 40+ years, but I’m very not interested in supporting a team with Miles Bridges on it. Even when he’s gone from the team it’s hard to imagine wanting to cheer for a team owned & operated by folks who traded for Miles Bridges.

At Delaney Hall, an ICE facility 8 miles from my front door, my neighbors are reportedly being beaten & gassed, and are on strike. ICE won't allow the NJ Department of Health to inspect, and have denied access to elected officials including the Governor, Mayor, a Senator and US reps.
