Update: I have repeatedly called Senator Kaine's DC office as well as his regional offices in Abingdon, Fredericksburg, Manassas, Richmond, Roanoke and Virginia Beach and I can't get a human to answer the phone at any of his seven offices. As a constituent, that is unacceptable.

I have begun blocking anyone I encounter on Facebook who has only one mutual friend and who clearly has no empathy for anyone different than themselves. (And that obviously manifests itself in a whole bunch of different ways.) It ultimately accomplishes nothing but I don't need to see the posts...

Today I listened to Rage Against the Machine, George Michael, Steve Lacy and Crowded House and it feels like it all helped. None of it made me fully forget the horrors that have been unleashed in the last 48 hours. But it all temporarily put them on the back burner in a healthy and needed way.
