Pete Hegseth and JD Vance are just out here every day giving the worst Best Man toasts you have ever heard.

When you look at the Skydance/Paramount/WB merger, all you need to know is that Skydance has only ever produced one movie in the top 100 grossers (Maverick at #17) and their finances hinge on AI speculation and foreign aristocracy... ...in other words, who wants a couple studios in 2032-ish?

RE: Digger, I was pretty thrown by the twist that Tom Cruise was playing Sting on his way to rescue Bart from that well.
Sting is a good Digger.

I have seen Digger but such movies were more fun to talk about in the previous iteration of the internet because now social media factions form almost instantaneously and everybody is just trying to get those likes with blind praise or outrageous insults. It smothers really unpacking anything.

NORMALS: TFA (years of hype with a release that felt like a cultural celebration, like a do-over of the late 90's) -or- Mando (Baby Yoda and a captive quarantined audience) FANS: TLJ (essentially a religious schism) CRITICS: Andor (already making the lists) -or- TLJ (best-reviewed Disney movie)

Our neighborhood Starbucks is one of the spots that is closing and it's a 90's hang-out in an interesting space with friendly baristas. Lot of people came to pay their heartfelt respects to corporate location #3,000 and that feeling will not simply carry over to the next one a mile down the road.

1/3 Primetime feels like something born from the brain of Faye Dunaway's Network character. Killer cold open that probably wrong-foots some viewers who may expect it to then double back to more of an origin story Act I. Lots of great details the movie doesn't underline too much (Pattinson's vest)...

The only movie I want to see at the Las Vegas Sphere is Barry Levinson's 1998 adaptation of Michael Crichton's Sphere. And only if it plays there for a minimum of six months.

If I were Donald Trump and I wanted to end all this speculation about my weird gross hands, I would simply have my doctors install those Wolverine knuckle-hole things from the comics.
Wolverine claw knuckles to replace Trump's weird gross hands.

Nearly every Universal Monsters movie is essentially a rom-com where the woman must choose between a bland handsome guy and a monster who really understands her. Except the monster's big gesture is always throwing a guy out a window and knocking over a bunch of chemicals.

There is a shot in the new Resident Evil movie that actually for a split-second successfully convinced my brain that I was going to fall to my death and that has never happened in any IMAX 3D whatever.

The easiest way to explain Susan Collins' continued political survival is to remember that Maine is where all that bad shit happens in Stephen King books.

Streaming provides access to massive libraries and a steady influx of new stuff with decent production value for the cost of one new movie ticket a month. Often without ads. Easy to see how that's unsustainable for the studio but amazing that it also somehow feels like a rip-off to the customer.

I have waited 200 years for literally any new on-camera Crypt Keeper. I am also well aware of how stiff the puppet was that had been used for most appearances after the series ended. Perhaps people should relax a beat until they see the new guy in motion with its eyes actually facing us?

I know Mitch McConnell is alive because he just offered me a drink in this suddenly-crowded abandoned hotel bar. Furthermore, he has just agreed to provide psychological treatment for my son, played by child actor Haley Joel Osment.

Any time we mention Elon Musk's net worth, we also need to mention that Elon Musk has killed more kids than Freddy Krueger.

I don't trust any Disclosure Day reviews saying anything like "finally Spielberg made another banger after 25 years". Not because it isn't one, but because he's already made like 10 bangers in the last 25 years.

I have observed that the two characters from Disney-era Star Wars that have absolutely landed the best with kids are Rey and Grogu. My free advice for a Star Wars movie that will heal the universe is to put them on a road trip to various weird planets.

I'll take him over the Republican I guess, but I still worry the target Steyer voter is a classic Obama-Obama-Trump-Biden-Trump voter.

This is really good? I think? "Official" country submissions rules have kept a lot of great foreign films (and even potential winners) out of the running over the years.

I think it's important, after a year of massive protests, plummeting GOP approval, electoral wins and numerous successful lawsuits, that Democratic leaders recognize what Americans really crave: the symbolic appearance of congenial propriety while we wait for a bunch of Republicans to turn good.

Chuck Schumer being my really underwhelming commencement speaker and then the economy collapsing a few months later initiated a Hell loop that has persisted for my entire adult life.

This has been made available, so for purposes of commenting on Bari Weiss's decision to spike the story, here's a live-post of that segment. It begins with a "you may recall" summary of the deportation to el Salvador. Describes the admin's claim that it could deport the men without due process

Overall, this big @nytimes.com investigation identified $500m+ that was donated to Trump-backed groups AFTER the election from 346 donors. It found that more than half of the donors have benefited in some way from actions by Trump or his administration. (gift link)

Well into his second term, the president and his allies have continued aggressively raising money. Many donors have interests before his administration, The Times found.

Christmas always reminds me of how my parents gave us a small fake tree in the basement for our junky kid ornaments. Eventually we got tired of it and brought over the best few ornaments to the real tree. We need to start an offshoot junk America for workshopping our bad ideas in the basement.
