I can't believe an economy based on "make as much as you can while spending as little as you can" has created a society made up entirely of scared unhappy people ripping each other off all day every day.

I had relatively mild shingles at 33 and it was the most physically painful six weeks of my entire life. I know several older Millennials my age with even worse stories. Get it on the wrong spot and it can disfigure you for years. Everybody should be given access to every possible drug to avoid it.

Another thing: The Prequels and the passage of time meant we were never ever going to get Sequels driven by the Original Trilogy leads. The existence of the OT makes a full-blown continuation of the PT impossible. The ST is their only shot at a blue-sky continuation with known actors under 60.

1999 until the Disney sale was all prequels all the time, then an aggressive snarky distancing until TPM turned 20. ST stuff receded once Mando was in full swing. If things are truly cyclical, Mando fades in favor of the next thing and dissatisfaction/nostalgia will create a window for ST stuff.

Watched Twisted Nerve (1968) for the first time tonight so I can finally understand what she was whistling about in Kill Bill. This movie is wild. Moves nicely. Borderline offensive but agreeably stylish and sleazy.

Also as soon as somebody finds an audience that enjoys seeing them dislike the thing, it accelerates and there's really nothing left but a dull loop of performative hatred that poisons the air around it. Personally if I genuinely don't care for something I just kind of move on from it pretty fast?

I took a college course called "Directors: Martin Scorsese" and there was a dude (who I otherwise liked) whose whole thing, all day, every day, was that he did not like the films of Martin Scorsese.

My favorite piece of John Williams music from the last 20 years. You just knew in the theater the first time she slid down that hill. Distinctly hummable and the way it builds in stages from tentative to sweeping to calm. Versatile and memorable. Classic Johnny.

This is the ideal and correct breakdown for a wave of Black Series Star Wars figures to make both friends and money: 4 waves per year 9 figures per wave: 2x Original Trilogy 2x New Release 1x Prequel 1x Sequel 1x TV or spin-off movie 1x Animation 1x Legends or video game or concept art grab bag

I'd say there is a 17% chance incoming leadership is aware this movie exists. They wasted like half a decade on various do-overs of Terminator 3 until Tom Cruise decided to gift them their only genuine mega-hit. There is no precedent for taste or even savvy IP-management here.

The Hasbro SW team is like if the Marvel team was like "we only recognize 1960's first appearances and X-Men: The Animated Series".

I trust the Hasbro figure selection team will become a SCOTUS-style obstructionist check on any attempts to make stuff people want to buy in the post-sequel timeline.

Tell me Mr. Hasbro, why can I buy a NECA figure from Friday the 13th Part Whatever or a Predator movie from the same parent company as Star Wars with 3 heads, fully custom packaging and every object he ever looked at for $35?

Genuinely feels like a grudging contractual obligation to do anything new post-TLJ. Only the Mandoverse has gotten prolonged support and I think a lot of that stems from how much they've been able to mine from a handful of existing basic designs.

I'm not saying this to disparage Mando & Grogu, but the fact that there will be entire pegs full of the warlord guy from the opening scene for the next 18 months but they couldn't cost out a Ben Solo while people are renting planes and billboards bearing his name feels a bit like trolling.

It was a little hard to understand but I think they were saying maybe these would have new card images as a selling point...or were they talking about unproduced characters? They also indirectly mentioned "a new movie coming out" so I'm sure there will be one Ryan Gosling figure out by March 2029.

Screw it, HasLab the entire Exegol scene with the remaining Knights of Ren, a couple red guards...add a little mummy man and a Snoke tube as stretch goals. One and done for all parties involved.

My thought process when I saw the Stormtrooper: 1. Again? No! 2. Actually that does look pretty good if the final version comes out close to that... 3. Pfft...that's not even the right Kenner card photo...

I don't understand why they can't even dip their toes into ST stuff with some crossover appeal. Even among various haters, a deluxe Sith throne or arcade claw machine Palpatine would probably outsell a lot of stuff they've released in the last couple years.

Imagine having this deep bench of neat-looking unproduced stuff from movies that made billions of dollars and there's a whole subset of people who haven't had any reason to buy from you in 5 years and you're like "Guys, your prayers are finally answered. Two words. CLONE. TROOOPER."

1 company handles affordable kids stuff. 1 company continues Black Series at a couple waves a year with fun something for everyone choices (see the new Trek line). 1 company can do a couple retro waves a year. Vintage too expensive to exist much longer...sorry.

It's time to break up this license. It's just a feedback loop of comment section dudes trying to make it 2006 forever who get actively annoyed when there's a new project to promote. (I do really want that BS Queen Amidala though)

When you look at the Skydance/Paramount/WB merger, all you need to know is that Skydance has only ever produced one movie in the top 100 grossers (Maverick at #17) and their finances hinge on AI speculation and foreign aristocracy... ...in other words, who wants a couple studios in 2032-ish?

I wish more people would allow themselves to accept that sometimes stuff in Star Wars is neat. This being one of those times.

I genuinely believe a substantial number of adult fans had their brains broken by having to finally move on from the image in their heads of the forever Ewok party and confront stuff like their faves aging and the galaxy backsliding at the same time it was happening in their real lives.

Like if people are just fundamentally opposed to the premise it wouldn't matter and this wouldn't do much for the casual viewer, but I do wonder if we'd endure so much of this particular bit of the discourse if they'd had like one random Kaminoan hanging out on Exegol.

To be clear, I find myself rolling my eyes when anybody glazes anything too much and I do find a lot of the jabs very funny but, like, it's all kind of on a spectrum of stuff that I don't think is very healthy for any of us.

I have seen Digger but such movies were more fun to talk about in the previous iteration of the internet because now social media factions form almost instantaneously and everybody is just trying to get those likes with blind praise or outrageous insults. It smothers really unpacking anything.

NORMALS: TFA (years of hype with a release that felt like a cultural celebration, like a do-over of the late 90's) -or- Mando (Baby Yoda and a captive quarantined audience) FANS: TLJ (essentially a religious schism) CRITICS: Andor (already making the lists) -or- TLJ (best-reviewed Disney movie)

What makes it seem even crazier to me is that the franchise basically went through a speed run of 3 major design overhauls (Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, TNG) in the span of 8 years.

Our neighborhood Starbucks is one of the spots that is closing and it's a 90's hang-out in an interesting space with friendly baristas. Lot of people came to pay their heartfelt respects to corporate location #3,000 and that feeling will not simply carry over to the next one a mile down the road.

3/3 ... You can also draw a straight line from Perverted Justice to today's internet obsessions and it's not lost on us that these guys really REALLY like doing this work. Whole movie feels like an insomniac doomscrolling at 2 AM. Also distressing to see 20 years ago as a fuzzy pre-HD period piece.

2/3 ...good surprise appearances by some unexpected actors. Love that another hidden camera series plays such a big part in the back half. Pattinson is everything you want but Wever and Gisondo are almost co-leads and do equally strong work. Darkly funny but also makes you feel pretty nauseous...

1/3 Primetime feels like something born from the brain of Faye Dunaway's Network character. Killer cold open that probably wrong-foots some viewers who may expect it to then double back to more of an origin story Act I. Lots of great details the movie doesn't underline too much (Pattinson's vest)...

Everything now has the air of a guy who owns but has never worked at the store telling us all to embrace the self-checkout line. Except in this case the guy just recently closed a failed chain of grocery stores themed around tiny portions.

Nearly every Universal Monsters movie is essentially a rom-com where the woman must choose between a bland handsome guy and a monster who really understands her. Except the monster's big gesture is always throwing a guy out a window and knocking over a bunch of chemicals.

This is so close to what my film criticism professor used to say that he might have cribbed it from her. He used to talk about how good film actors don't need the range to "do it all". They just need to work for certain parts and people need to know when to plug them into their movie.

There is a shot in the new Resident Evil movie that actually for a split-second successfully convinced my brain that I was going to fall to my death and that has never happened in any IMAX 3D whatever.
