Not as far as I can tell, `print()` seems to have been added to the web platform in the times where browsers were single-threaded, and it builds in those assumptions. And ig no one cares enough about printing to add a new async way.

This is only enabled with experimental features, since Chrome 128, which is also when unprefixed line-clamp was added. Ideally we'd want -webkit-line-clamp to have no difference with line-clamp other than the syntax, and this is why we also want developers to test -webkit with experimental features.
020
Andreu Botella @andreubotella.com · 27/05/2026
One thing we're doing with line-clamp is you wouldn't need overflow: hidden (or clip) to hide the lines after clamp anymore, so I think that'd also help here I feel bad about asking you to test Chrome on a Firefox WebDev thread, but we have an experimental impl in Chrome: bsky.app/profile/did:...

Andreu Botella @andreubotella.com · 26/05/2026
And if you're using Chrome Canary, you can also try `line-clamp: auto 3`, which lets you clamp to a height, or 3 lines, whichever is smaller. Let us know if this would be useful for you!
031
Andreu Botella @andreubotella.com · 26/05/2026
Brian's blog post goes in more depth on line-clamp, but it gets rid of the 3-property cruft you need before -webkit-line-clamp will do anything, and it also adds a `line-clamp: auto` syntax to be able to clamp to whatever content fits a given height. It even lets you animate that height!

Andreu Botella @andreubotella.com · 26/05/2026
Web developers, if you have sites using -webkit-line-clamp, please make sure to test them with Chrome with experimental web platform features enabled! If you can also test the new line-clamp property, that'd also be great! #CSS #webdev

-webkit-line-clamp has a long history, involving Safari shipping an (arguably broken) experiment to the world, websites slowly starting to rely on it as Safari and then Chromium became the #1 browser, then other browsers needing to support it… But no, Firefox does support other -webkit properties 😅

I haven't visited that much of Spain despite living here, but it seems like some stations are better and some are worse, and it also depends on whether it's low or high-speed rail.
010
Andreu Botella @andreubotella.com · 25/05/2026
Not to mention all of the other shit with Spanish rail, such as the fact that my nearest airport has no rail connection, the fact that going from Alicante to Barcelona is faster through Madrid because the straight line along the coast is low speed, and so much more stuff...
000
Andreu Botella @andreubotella.com · 25/05/2026
and often you need to wait on a line before you can get to the platform. For this Iryo train from Barcelona I'm taking right now, it was a separate line for 1st and 2nd class, exactly like airports.
100
Andreu Botella @andreubotella.com · 25/05/2026
It's not just 8.5 seconds. It's having a completely separated area of the station for when you've checked in, often with nothing to do but wait (and when you have some cafeteria, it's in a walled-in place so it's a lot more expensive ofc),
200
Andreu Botella @andreubotella.com · 25/05/2026
Maybe the *train* experience is better in Spain, but the *station* experience in Spain sucks. Having to go through a TSA-like control for high speed rail? Let me just fucking tap in and out like in NL.
100
Andreu Botella @andreubotella.com · 25/05/2026
I've just spent almost two weeks in the Netherlands, and now that I'm back at Spain, I have to wonder: Why the fuck do train stations in Spain suck so fucking much? Barcelona-Sants is almost an airport, holy shit.

Pichu: Alpine Linux or Not Alpine Linux, the only two genders.
Me: where does gentoo fit in that
Pichu (in response to my "where does gentoo fit in that"): Yes.
Green (in response to Pichu's "Alpine Linux or Not Alpine Linux, the only two genders."): glibc or musl
Green (in response to my "where does gentoo fit in that"): clearly not alpine
Pichu (in response to Green's "clearly not alpine"): Void is Non-Binary.
Me: what if you install gentoo in the alps?
Pichu: It has bot- wait no it doesn't.
Green (in response to Pichu's "Void is Non-Binary."): wdym it's clearly not alpine
Pichu: Which was that ONE (1) Distro that gave you the option between musl and glibc?
Me: distros are a social construct anyway
Pichu: Void let's you pick your init system definitely not the libc though.
Magenta (in response to my "distros are a social construct anyway"): wait this is kinda a good metaphor....
