I charge half after the sketch and before beginning the final piece, second half before sending it. Never had a problem with it, this is the first time someone drops mid process. I give it some margin for input since it's a drawing for a specific person. Though in practical terms you're correct.

Based on a dropped commission idea (3rd image - client lost interest). I liked the design so much that I had to get it out of my system in a full blown illustration. A kind of techno-organic cyberpunk-ish weird Batman that could make for an interesting comic.

This is a good artist rule from Andre: “Leave something prepared for the next day. It’s much easier to start working right away if you have a clear objective. A few organized notes to expand on, a perspective grid laid out, a rough figure sketched. Sometimes it requires just a couple of minutes…”
