So some Manitobans, including a professor, are in a tizzy because Prem. Wab Kinew spoke French in the legislature. MPP Sol Mamkawa spoke in his Indigenous language in the Ontario Legislature. I'm sure several MLAs in NB speak French. Sorry, but if speaking French is an issue, you're the problem.

I had already decided and was going to hold my nose voting because I'm not a fan of Olivia Chow. The alternative wasn't better. I watched Brad Bradford at last night's debate in Scarborough. It cemented my choice. Here's why. proximapolicy.substack.com/p/toronto-ne... #TOPoli #TOElxn26 #Toronto

Well I would take that as moderate rather than deep cooperation. Carney has to be measured in his approach.

There is a Ontario Liberal Leadership debate tonight. I can't. It just seems so boring. No one excites me in the party and I don't see them winning in 29. Sad state of affairs.

You need intercity rail service but VIA needs to operate in a way that makes sense. I wouldn't agree with Eric that VIA being driven into the ground. Why would they invest in building rail cars here?

What would a fair Ontario–Toronto-region compact look like? One with democratic regional representation, reliable own-source revenue, integrated transit and housing governance, and protection from unilateral restructuring.

André 🇨🇦 🇹🇹 🇲🇹 🇪🇺 @andredarmanin.eurosky.social · 06/09/2026
The consequences are visible in regional transit, housing, land use, revenues, and local representation: fragmented responsibilities, short-term bargaining, and decisions taken at one scale but felt at another.

Yet Ontario municipalities remain constitutionally subordinate to the province. Their powers can be expanded, narrowed, or overridden by provincial legislation. That is the central issue. Any provincial government has this unilateral capacity.

The GTA region has nearly 7 million people. The Toronto region has long been one of Canada’s core economic engines, estimated by the OECD at roughly 17% of national GDP and 45% of Ontario GDP.

André 🇨🇦 🇹🇹 🇲🇹 🇪🇺 @andredarmanin.eurosky.social · 06/09/2026
A slightly heretical thought here. Toronto, and perhaps the GTA, needs far more than a better relationship with Queen’s Park. It needs protected metro autonomy. Not independence. Not a city-state in the literal sense. A governing settlement suited to a 21st-century urban region.

Europe needs governments that address legitimate insecurity with decent work, capable public services, affordable homes, orderly and humane migration policy, and democratic renewal—not scapegoating. The centre must offer a better future, not merely warn about a darker one.

Germany’s postwar democratic settlement was built on a hard-won understanding: nationalism untethered from human dignity, constitutional restraint, and historical memory can become catastrophic. That lesson should not be softened for electoral convenience.

André 🇨🇦 🇹🇹 🇲🇹 🇪🇺 @andredarmanin.eurosky.social · 06/09/2026
The AfD’s possible breakthrough is consequential far beyond one German Land. It risks normalizing a politics that defines belonging by ancestry, treats pluralism as weakness, and turns migrants, minorities, and democratic institutions into targets of resentment.

People’s frustrations are real: regional decline, insecure work, strained services, the costs of economic transition, and a sense that political institutions no longer listen. But frustration does not make racism, exclusion, historical amnesia, or authoritarianism a solution.
