I've always wanted to see a total eclipse. But it was so much better than I ever imagined. We went to Mallorca. We walked a lot. Found a perfect little spot. Read Annie Dillard's wonderful essay 'Total Eclipse' as we waited. Saw the total eclipse (with some clouds right at the end). Magic.

Looking forward to reading @andreawulf.bsky.social's biography of Georg Forster, an early Germanophone reader/reviewer of William Macintosh's "Travels in Europe, Asia, and Africa" (1782). Forster valued the book for what it had to say about India, but thought it wasn't up to snuff as a travelogue!
