Mixed messages in this. Crushing illegal e-bikes does not fix people injuring themselves riding intoxicated. Unlike with cars, riders seem to injure themselves rather than others. Legal e-bikes are not “fast”, they require pedalling and are limited to 25km/h, which can be reached on a non-e bike.

The inflation problem. My cartoon in today's @theageaustralia.bsky.social and @sydmorningherald.bsky.social
A political cartoon by Megan Herbert showing a single mother, recently made homeless after defaulting on her mortgage repayments (as evidenced by visible paperwork), setting up a new home in a tent with her two young children. Surrounded by their essentials stored in storage and plastic bags, the baby crawls on the grass, his older brother heats some food over a camp stove, and his exhausted-looking mother blows up an air mattress. Watching her, the boy says, "Is this what they means when they say 'inflation is the problem,' Mum?"

Mhmm, on a Rolls Royce I would have expected some highly sophisticated sensors to compensate for the abysmal visibility over the bonnet. And maybe a slightly better placed radiator for oil. 🤷‍♂️

Ten years after South Australia’s blackout, the state gets more than 75% of its electricity from renewables and is heading towards 100% net renewables. The technology has raced ahead while the politics remains stuck, Giles Parkinson writes. #auspol #RenewableEnergy

‘Too much wind and solar’? Ten years on, South Australia tells a different story
Ten years after South Australia’s statewide blackout became a political weapon against renewables, the state now gets more than three-quarters of its electricity from renewable sources. The technology has raced ahead, even if the politics has barely moved.

The irony is that an AUKUS sub runs on what can be considered a Small Modular Reactor. All it needs is a grid adapter 😂

Andreas Piefke @andreaspiefke.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Why are these still talking points? On energy, the market has made the decision for renewables and storage, simply on economics. The same will happen with cars. Any path to nuclear will be long, starting with removing the moratorium. A nuclear reactor is as far out of reach as an AUKUS sub 😉

Porque no los dos? They are trying to make this an either/or, while we can just continue to protect creatives’ rights and force them to underwrite renewable investment for their data centres. Particularly since gas turbines are sold out for years and renewables are cheaper.

Australia’s dependence on gas generation during evening energy peak falls by almost 70%
Batteries now meet almost half of the grid’s dispatchable power needs during hours of highest demand * Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast Australia’s dependence on gas for power during the evening, when the grid is under the most pressure, has fallen by almost nearly 70% over the past year as batteries surged in, replacing the fossil fuel. Gas generation during the busy early evening, between 5pm and 8pm, fell by 67% in the year to August, as large-scale batteries continued to come online and half a million home batteries were installed under the government’s subsidy program, analysis by consultancy EnergyEdge found. An investigation by @propublica.org and @drilledmedia.bsky.social has found that the same modelers who overestimated the potential of CCS repeatedly underestimated solar power - one of the energy technologies that would allow more oil to remain in the ground. projects.propublica.org/why-carbon-c...
Two line charts are depicted. At the top, the line chart is labeled "Carbon Capture Capacity." The y-axis is "megatons" and the x-axis is years (2010-2040). More than a dozen blue lines show a steady increase from the left edge of the chart to the right edge of the chart. Some of the blue lines exceed 4,000 megatons between years 2030 and 2040. The blue lines are labeled "Projections". A maroon line is at around 0 megatons from 2010 to 2025. The maroon line is labeled "Actual carbon storage".

The second chart is labeled "Solar Power". The y-axis is "terawatt-hour" and the x-axis is years (2010-2040). Dozens of blue lines increase from around 0 on the left side of the chart, showing moderate growth from 2010 to 2040. The blue lines are labeled "Projections". A maroon line starts at 0 in 2010 and rises sharply to over 2,000 in 2024. The maroon line is obviously increasing much faster than the blue lines. The maroon line is labeled "Actual solar electricity production."

Uninvited. My @smh and @theage cartoon.
Single frame. Three people on a couch watching tv. In the middle is a buff guy in sport gear with TShirt marked “SPORT BET FAST”. His feet are up on the coffee table and he’s hugging the others, Mr and Mrs in their team jerseys, uncomfortably close.
Mrs says, “I still don’t understand how he got in here…” Mr says, “It’s probably my fault - I didn’t opt out.”

Don’t ask me. My @smh @theage cartoon.
Six frames. 1. Fellow with clipboard bails up woman passer-by, says, “Excuse me, I’m doing a short survey. Do you think Australia takes in too many immigrants?” 2. She says,”I don’t know. I mean, are we talking about the immigrants who look after my mother in the aged care home?” 3. She continues: “Or the ones who come here to pick fruit for low wages so we have affordable fresh produce?” 4. “Or the ones working in construction to build our housing and infrastructure?” 5. “Or those training to be the medical specialists were short of?” 6. “I really don’t know. Maybe you could ask the government. They should know.”

Guess. My cartoon in today's @theageaustralia.bsky.social
An editorial cartoon by Megan Herbert divided unto 4 panels telling a consecutive story. 1: Leader of the Liberal Party, Angus Taylor stands in front of a large, dark, closed, cube-shaped container labelled "Australian Values." He gestures to it with a "ta-da" motion. An assembled press pack asks, "What's in it?". 2: Angus Taylor replies, " Well, it's more about what's not in it." 3: The press pack asks, " What's not its it?" 4: Angus replies, "I'd rather not say."
