It’s easy to forget now, but asbestos is also really useful! It’s fire resistant, it’s an excellent insulator, it’s flexible, and it’s cheap & easy to produce. Which is why it’s in like 50% of all houses from before 1980. Unfortunately it also causes lung cancer, so, you know, negative externality.
