But is this really a technical problem that needs a technical solution? I think part of the problem is cultural: "papermaxing", i.e. optimising for the number of paper submissions. What is the point of producing so many papers if nobody has the time to engage with them and read them properly?

🤯 > TLDR: ARR faces a reviewing crisis: submissions are growing far faster than reviewer capacity. 38% of the ~17K May 2026 submissions came from authors with no available publication record

ACL sustainable reviewing policy is live! aclrollingreview.org/sustainable-... This was an incredible amount of work by incredible people in & outside of peer review committee. As any policy, it has compromises and will leave some unhappy. But it'll help to not repeat the disaster of EMNLP'26.

I've been unsettled lately when reading messages and papers. It feels like I'm dissociating. Everything seems a bit alien, even if it's completely human. I've had a realization: When our simulations finally exited the Uncanny Valley, they brought the Uncanny with them.

In light of the current funding situation (worldwide), a modest proposal: instead of pouring billions of dollars into GenAI claiming "it *could* accelerate science and research," consider putting 1% of that amount in what *will* accelerate science and research. Namely, funding science and research.
