Compassion and Love, if they're genuine, are consistent. The murder of 1200 Israelis on October 7th 2023 was evil. The murder of 74,000 Palestinians since then (as well as the numbers before) is also evil. It isn't that hard. Don't murder.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we acknowledge and reflect on the deep intergenerational harm residential schools have caused to Indigenous families and communities. Art by Elaine Landry #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters #TruthAndReconciliation
A handprint on an orange background. The handprint is broken into segments, inside of which are different symbols representing elements of Indigenous culture, including animal paw prints, landscapes with trees, and other images drawn from nature. There is a large black eagle feather on the left side of the handprint, and bird silhouettes appear in the upper left hand corner of the image. The words EVERY CHILD MATTERS appear at the bottom of the piece.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is observed annually in Canada on September 30 to honor residential school survivors, their families, and communities. It acknowledges the tragic history, ongoing impacts, and intergenerational trauma of the Canadian Indian residential school system.
In the centre of an orange background are three symbols: a feather, a narwhal, and a flower. Each symbol represents the distinct cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, brought together in a circular flowing composition to reflect the connection between the groups.

Above the central elements, stars surrounding the moon honour the children who never returned home from residential schools and symbolize their enduring place in our thoughts and memory. The dotted patterns evoke beadwork and reflect the importance of passing down art, culture and traditions from one generation to the next.

Flowing lines connect the elements of the design, reflecting the connections between land, water, communities and generations. Their winding path represents the journey of reconciliation and reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing process.
