New: We obtained witness videos and surveillance footage showing ICE parking their cars, arresting an observer, and transferring detainees in parking lots across 4 of Chicago's police districts. Local officials have tried banning ICE from city property. But incidents in the lots keep stacking up:

Chicago’s Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability is holding a listening session where residents can share what they want to see in their next Police Superintendent. Last week, I published a story for @unraveledpress.com press diving into the commission’s current turmoil.

Chicago has a new community police oversight body that emerged in response to the historic 2020 protests. According to those elected to serve, however, it’s already full of cops.

Lagunas was identified on social media by community ICE watchdog Ismael Cordová-Clough one week ago. In both Chicago and Minneapolis, he has threatened people by telling them they won't "like the outcome" if they continue observing. We've watched his behavior escalate over the last year.

And her husband is now in a different state, so we have to find attorneys that are able to work out of state to try to stop, or slow down the deportation process. Every cent is incredibly important for this family. Thank you all.

The government took her ability to work, and even if they hadn’t she still would have lost her job since she missed work the next day as she had to go to court. Now we have to look for attorneys that can help her with her ongoing asylum case in Illinois to make sure she remains with the kids.

To give a little more context to the situation, this case is not necessarily an outlier. They were doing everything ‘the right way’ and still got detained at court without an interview. The humiliation of takin a parent in front of his children is not a bug, it is part of the design.

Chicago (and elsewhere)— We really, really need you to show up for this one. This amount of $ is a drop in the bucket for someone with means. A traumatized family is facing an emergency, and every second counts. We don't know where the detention pipeline could take this father next.

Years ago Chomsky (before we knew he was homies with Epstein), when talking about their stance on climate change, said that Republicans were ‘the most dangerous organization in human history’ and he did not mean it in a hyperbolic manner. They truly are out to destroy us all, one way or another!

The Ronan encampment has existed for years but as the Chicago Parks District clears encampments throughout the city, houseless folks get displaced and move to already formed encampments in the city. With the recent closure of the encampment at Legion park, folks have moved into Ronan.

New: Chicago finance chair Pat Dowell has written to Mayor Brandon Johnson, saying a proposed ownership transfer of Chicago's privatized parking meter system to Stonepeak Partners doesn't have the necessary support to go forward. Stonepeak owns Omni Air, which conducts ICE deportation flights.
Partial image text:

That hearing was an important opportunity to address
the concerns raised by members and provide the transparency necessary for the City Council to fulfill its legislative
responsibility. In addition to holding a public hearing, the committee solicited written questions and/or concerns from City
Council members and held briefings on this matter.
While I appreciate your administration's participation in the committee hearing, the testimony ultimately confirmed that
many of the central concerns raised by members remain unresolved. The City Council still has not received the legal and
financial analysis necessary to independently evaluate the proposed transfer, nor have members received satisfactory
answers regarding the timeline of the transaction and the administration's decision-making process.
Additionally, significant questions remain regarding Stonepeak's ownership structure, regulatory and legal history,
operational practices and the potential implications of this transfer for the City of Chicago as outlined in the June
11th Chicago City Council Position Letter to Stonepeak of which 15 alderpersons signed. These are fundamental
considerations for any legislative body asked to approve the transfer of a public asset of this magnitude. Based on my
colleagues’ feedback, the proposal has not secured the support necessary to advance from committee at this time.
As Chair of the Committee on Finance, I do not believe it is fiscally prudent for this matter to remain pending indefinitely.
The committee has fulfilled its responsibility to thoroughly examine this proposal, and it is now appropriate for members
to formally determine whether it should be recommended to the full City Council.
Accordingly, I intend to call the proposed transfer for a vote before the Committee on Finance on July 13, 2026.
