one amusing edge case I found a decade ago or so: the game "Boxing Legends of The Ring" -- grammatically you'd think it'd be "Boxing Legends of the Ring", except that "The Ring" in this case is the name of a magazine, so the The is supposed to be capitalized

a proper game database is going to have to support multiple name aliases and I've spent a long time thinking about that from working on sega retro, but with filenames unless you want to start introducing non-Unix people to the wonderful world of symbolic links I'm not sure there's A single solution

as for the top of this thread, I know no-intro has always been a lot more on top of things, with a formal naming policy that encourages correctness and open checking and double-checking of names, so it *tends to be* more correct but it also doesn't handle every system, focusing on ROM-based ones

it gets extra fun when punctuation gets involved because even official sources of game titles are inconsistent about punctuation, ESPECIALLY about whether they should be ASCII, half-width, or full-width oh and that's before we bring up hepburn vs kunrei-shiki on the latin letters side
