Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Afternoon out with a friend at the small but excellent Carmen Rupe exhibition, followed by liquorice gelato and logging a few bees. Wellington, you're still pretty great. 1120
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Extremely wholesome start to the school holidays: "daisy" (actually snowdrop) chains tied to the bridge by the playground and streaming out in the wind. 060
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Hey look the Hannah has fixed their death stairs I dramatically fell from! I will likely still find a dramatic way to injure myself, but this is a good move. 080
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I'm freezing because I'm a goblin who never brings their coat but I also have hot night market noodles and tomorrow booked off work and there are kids practicing their singing from the council buildings balcony and it's pretty nice actually 1130
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Also very cool to see Sanctuary on the library's stall - thanks folks! 040
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Walk through the cherry blossom on the way to Living in Colour 🏳️🌈. I don't know why my city does Pride in September, but it's always good. Nice to catch up with friends and meet some new people. 190
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Very cool to find this at our crafting spot at @wcllibrary.bsky.social. Ka rawe! 0151
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Look how pretty the resources / handouts at today's writing workshop were! 0150
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 04/09/2026A little sad to not make it to Word this year but very nice to have this sent to me: not one but two of my books on display at Tūranga! 080
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 02/09/2026At the Living Wage election forum, still 20 mins til start and this place is PACKED (yes I know there are empty chairs but there are more people in the food queue). 0152
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 28/08/2026In the horrible mall with the horrible light to test my new light sensitivity glasses. If they work here they'll work anywhere. 1120
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 28/07/2026It's release day! Like sea magic? Ghostly ships? A queer protag with ADHD? Tides of Time has all this and more. It's available on all the usual platforms at: books2read.com/b/tides3 Or start the series at books2read.com/b/tides1 13339
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 08/07/2026It's a -feeling- seeing things you were involved in organising on a timeline like you were there in history. 060
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 04/07/2026Recipe comments about Beef Wellington read so differently these days... 130
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 28/06/2026Look at this shiny bookmark-trophy I got as a @tepaetawhitiawards.bsky.social finalist! 1172
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Good turnout on a cold day 🏳️⚧️ I didn't manage all the march but did what I could. 0130
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 06/06/2026And lastly Hell Followed with Us by Andrew Joseph White. It's dystopian and harrowing in places - I put off reading it for a while - but it also really sucks you in. Pacey with terrifying worldbuilding. 020
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 06/06/2026Power to Yield and Other Stories by Bogi Takács. I finally got to read the "turned into a houseplant" story Bogi hinted at a while back! Enjoyed basically all of these stories, and loved the wide range of ideas underpinning them. 110
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 06/06/2026The Future Is Disabled: Prophecies, Love Notes and Mourning Songs by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha. One of those books that part breaks you and part heals you. Filled in a lot of gaps from the author's previous book, and acknowledged a lot of messiness. Important reading. 120
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 06/06/2026Menewood by Nicola Griffiths - I grew up already feeling points of connection to Hild/a and to be honest this series feels as much like lost lore to me as fiction. It's also just really well researched and crafted. It's long but doesn't feel like a chore to read at all. 150
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 06/06/2026This Delicious Death by Kayla Cottingham. Look, this YA won't change your world but it was a lot of fun. Teenage me who loved Point Horror would have loved this with all the horror, minus the weird misogyny and plus large amounts of gay. 120
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 06/06/2026A Fire Born of Exile by Aliette de Bodard - this series is so rich in its worldbuilding, but here I particularly appreciated the depth, the echos of past wrongs and how the permeate the world. 3255
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 06/06/2026Lakelore by AnnaMarie McLemore is beautiful magic-realist YA, with two Latino, ND, non-binary teens, their (supportive!) families, and a world beneath a lake (which is one of my favourite story topics). 130
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 26/05/2026To misquote Erin Patterson: this government, I swear to fucking god. 292
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 23/05/2026I know when I went round saying 2026 was going to be my Luddite year most of you thought I was just really sick of AI. The truth is, I'm really sick of generative AI, engaging in political activism in the best ways available to me, _and_ I bought a handloom. 1191
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 17/05/2026Beautiful setting for a witchcraft uh I mean writing retreat 1160
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 16/05/2026Also really cool to bump into several of the D*List crew and see these resources. 020
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 16/05/2026Main drawcard for me was hearing Rebecca Kuang speak and she absolutely did not disappoint. Daniel Hahn's translating Shakespeare discussion, which I picked out almost at random turned out to be another highlight. 130
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 15/05/2026Auckland friends, I'm lurking around the Writers' Festival until late afternoon tomorrow. Say hi if you're doing the same. 060
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Made it to Auckland. Had new food experience. Now hanging out in giant hotel room. 090
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 09/05/2026Friend visited from India. We took them to sample the local cuisine. 0130
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 05/05/2026Sold some books! Got to hang out with some great people! Back home now... 0150
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 01/05/2026Kirikiriroa Hamilton, I am at Ages of Pages tomorrow. Table K05. Come say hi! 🇳🇿📚 1125
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 26/04/2026Made the first mitten in 2019. Finished the second today. Nice and quick pattern if you don't leave a seven year gap mid project. 🇳🇿🧶 2511
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 25/04/2026"Spellcasting On" has made the Sir Julius Vogel Award shortlist for 2026. Thank you to everyone who nominated, and congratulations to my fellow shortlistees. 63110
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 31/03/2026March reading (learning heavily into YA). Titles and authors to follow in thread. 130
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 18/02/2026This week I started my term as the Toi Pōneke d/Deaf and/or Disabled Artist in Residence. The time and space to write is so precious, and I'm loving hanging round my old stomping ground again. 0140
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 31/01/2026Playing Wingspan with a new expansion I asked if hummingbirds counted as birds, was emphatically told "hummingbirds are birds" and my brain immediately did this. #OwlsAreValid 180
Andi @andiwrites.bsky.social · 18/01/2026Look, we all love to see it, but the entertainment classification is just a little on the nose, perhaps? 54211
