Totally agree with @shengwuli.bsky.social. The broader point is that I think we need to directly address the elephant in the room: the *huge* impact of context--i.e., seemingly irrelevant factors--on choice and beliefs. 🧵 on the behavioral economics of context, with some new data at the end.

Great thread Alex and thanks for sharing. To be honest, I have mixed feelings about this ongoing revolution. Happy it's happening, sad it took so long, baffled at all the things I had to unlearn along the years while the "urns&balls are the only game in town" phase. Anecdotes mini thread 🧵.

We still have a relatively poor understanding of the relationship between evidence and policy. Program evaluation in particular is often motivated by a desire to make policy better. But how effective is program evaluation itself?Michelle Rao's JMP tackles this question. www.michellerao.com/research

How very conservative, calling for the failure of a sector that brings in £130 billion a year (intake from international studies at £41.9 billion alone) and employs a quarter of a million academic staff. Beacon also calls for the elimination of all subject domains excluding vocational degrees
The collapse of our universities is the best thing that could happen to Britain
We need to rethink the purpose of higher education. Sadly, we aren't going to do that until the current system falls apart
