To thine own self be true, is that it? The joke is, of course, that Peer Gynt nicked his motto from the Hall of the Goblin King, so even being true to himself wasn’t being true to himself. Authenticity is overrated, don’t you think? I should rather be interesting than genuine any day of the week.

Each morning, I rouse myself from the pit to make war on god. I usually start with tea. I make time for my daily practice, meditation in the Det Sen school, and then apply myself to my studies or labours or tradecraft. But life can be such a social whirl. Who can know what the day will bring.

Fear? I know fear, as well as any man. Normal fears: death, infirmity, giant robot war machines… I suppose my greatest fear is the human capacity for surrendering our freedoms in exchange for not even security but merely the chance of some petty revenge on a group we can other. Or maybe wasps.
