The daughter in the happy-family-photo here, Katherine Kang, is currently the campaign manager for Julie Kang. So @sound-transit.bsky.social has just been deceived into plastering up a photo of a political candidate AND their campaign manager using our public dollars, just before the D5 election.

After graduation, I flew home to Seattle and stepped into one of the most meaningful opportunities of my life. After nearly a decade of canvassing, phone banking, and volunteering on political campaigns, I'm now serving as Campaign Manager for Julie for Seattle. Every day, I have the privilege of knocking on doors across District 5, creating campaign content, coordinating our incredible volunteer team, and connecting with neighbors who care deeply about their community. It has been surreal to see our yard signs across the district and to read The Seattle Times endorsement. With ballots arriving next week and the primary just around the corner, I'm excited to keep applying everything I've learned over the past three years while continuing to grow through this experience. https:// Inkd.in/gSh_XTrU

An abomination, much like forcibly naming the colonial city after the chief even though you’re not supposed to repeatedly invoke the name of the dead in Coast Salish cultures
"Old Seattle...objected very seriously to having that city called by his name, for fear it would be pronounced very often [violating a Suquamish taboo against speaking the names of the dead], and he would be continually turning [over in his grave] and never have any rest”

@typewriteralley.bsky.social ‘s reporting by end of 2025 was $144M for Pinehurst
The forthcoming Pinehurst Station, located between Northgate and Shoreline South, will cost Sound Transit $144 million, which at this point looks like a steal compared to these other pending projects. Out of the three stations, Graham Street and Pinehurst are expected to serve similar ridership by the time the full ST3 build-out is completed:
3,100 to 4,600 daily riders at Pinehurst and 2,700 to 4,100 at Graham Street.
Boeing Access Road, on the other hand, is only expected to bring in around 2,100 daily riders.

No. SeaFor is the 501(c)(4) civic infrastructure entity. Electoral activity runs through a separate PAC / IE structure with a clean firewall. The c4 builds the operating system. The PAC, when it operates, plays in its own clearly-marked lane.

Yes. Contributions to 501(c)(4) nonprofits are anonymous but not tax deductible. Many of our supporters operate businesses, sit on boards, or hold positions where public political activity isn't tenable.

Because it’s kinda buried down in the article, just wanted to highlight a bit that’s short-term more important than the journalism slop / council email harassment aggregator: Nelson’s nonprofit is planning to do $100k of PAC spend against @neighborsfornilu.bsky.social / for her opponent
…. That site took a few hours and about $100 in Al tokens.
CivicTide is a bigger undertaking. Nelson said her organization's budget is $163,000 for July through December, with $55,000 to $65,000 of that going to site development and ongoing Al tokens. The rest covers legal costs and the planned independent expenditure, she said. She isn't paying herself.

Mayor's "Fair and
Transparent Pricing_ill likely to raise grocery store prices
UFCW-backed CB 121267 would preserve grocery store worker jobs but could result in higher grocery store prices and the elimination of online and in-store discounts.
STAKES
So who benefits? Primarily UFCW 3000. It takes a lot of time and labor to change traditional shelf prices by hand so this is really a job (and member dues) protection effort.
STAKES
Who loses? Grocery shoppers and residents.
Here's why: 1) Grocery stores will bear the additional cost of compliance requirements (including strict record-keeping and disclosures) and could get caught up in lengthy, expensive lawsuits - and those costs will be passed on to consumers in higher prices. 2) Stores could also discontinue loyalty-club discounts because the bill's exclusionary language is too vague to risk the legal exposure - so no more discounts at the register. 3) Seattleites could end up living in food deserts after their neighborhood grocery store shuts its doors because the higher operational costs and the risk of said lawsuits wasn't worth their 1-
3% margins.

It’s really funny what “historical” preservation means in the US, and especially in the PNW where mass colonization was not much more than one lifespan ago. In China you’d just routinely stumble into “this is a historical neighborhood and park! This bridge was originally from 1631”
Pedestrian footbridge (rebuilt), originally from 1631Historic neighborhood now shopping district with some legacy housingGongchen Bridge was built in the fourth year (1631) of the Chongzhen Reign of Ming Dynasty, After repeated constructions and destructions, it was rebuilt in the 11" ysar (1885) of the Guangu Reign of Oing Dynasty: Gongchen Bridge is a three-hole stone arch bridge. It stretches over the Grand Canal from east to west: it's the terminal mark of Hangzhou's ancient canal. The bridge measures a tota! ength of 92 meters and a with of 6.6 meters, with a height of 9.2 meters for the middle hole, It is a curve-shaped bridge. with steps set at both ends, and plain stone railings and baluster columns on both sides. Upturned lotus-petal designs were decorated on the column tops. The bridge body was laid by stone slabs in a staggered way, with the arch longitudinally apposed and laid in sections. The bridge piers were battered layer by layer from top to bottom Gongchen Bridge is the most magnificent ancient stone arch bridge among those witch left in downtown area of Hangzhou, and also a typical one of the three-hole

E.g., the UW CEP class-identified high opportunity areas for housing in the orange squares, at least looking a bit at both the hydrology and grade. Obv you can be even more aggressive, but nothing leads to being able to tile the whole thing jp4all.org/community/de...
The housing alternative imagines the park layout if there were housing on the park site. Opportunities for housing are identified on each corner of the park. Housing on the Southeast corner takes place of half of the P-Patch from previous alternatives, while the dog park is placed around the water retention pond to make room for housing on the Northeast corner. Housing on the park would be effective in connecting the community to the park, as the housing is integrated into the park, contributing to transit-oriented development goals. An important barrier is that this alternative would require overcoming Initiative 42, which would be a long and time consuming process. However, this alternative shows that there is space in this park for both housing and all of the proposed recreational uses.

It's also worth noting that at the end, Julie Kang's Pacific International bank capitalization appears to be worth just $8.2 million, with $6.5 million of that (almost 80%) being TARP bailout money from the US Treasury after the subprime mortgage financial crisis to rescue underwater banks.
BBCN Bancorp Announces Acquisition of Pacific International Bancorp

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 22, 2012--BBCN Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBCN), based in Los Angeles, and Pacific International Bancorp, Inc. (OTCBB: PIBW), based in Seattle, today jointly announced the signing of a definitive agreement under which Pacific International Bancorp will merge with BBCN.

Pacific International has total assets of approximately $200 million, and its primary subsidiary, Pacific International Bank, a state-chartered bank, has four bank locations in the Seattle metropolitan area. Upon completion of the transaction, which is expected to close during first quarter 2013, BBCN will have six branches in the Seattle area.

Under the terms of the merger agreement, the stock-for-stock transaction is valued at approximately $8.2 million, valuing each outstanding share of Pacific International common stock at $1.75. As part of the transaction, Pacific International’s $6.5 million in Series A Preferred Stock issued under the U.S. Treasury’s TARP Capital Purchase Program will be retired.

“This transaction will position BBCN as a major player in the Pacific Northwest Korean American community,” said Alvin D. Kang, President and Chief Executive Officer of BBCN Bancorp. “With this transaction, BBCN will be the market leader in Southern California, Northern California, New York and the Seattle metropolitan area. We expect to have a smooth and seamless integration, which will quickly position us to achieve the benefits of this merger for our customers, our employees and our shareholders.”

“Given BBCN’s strong financial position, supported by a steady stream of core earnings and deep leadership bench, BBCN was our top choice for a partner,” said Paul G. Sabado

Seattle city council's District 5 has been held by pro-business backed candidates for a long time. Debora Juarez has held this seat on-and-off for nearly a decade. Cathy Moore won the seat in 2024, but resigned 18 months later. There is a special election *right now* to fill the seat until 2028.

Instead of being situated at TWO golf courses, an interstate freeway, and 2.2 miles of barbed wire fencing, 130th Pinehurst station could be the site of thriving highrises and businesses, surrounding a flagship nature park. Imagine a Discovery Park the whole city can get to by light rail!

Not just on Aurora Ave, but at the site of Julie Kang’s former bank. You know, her bank she was likely forced to sell because of what the FDIC called “violations, reckless unsafe or unsound banking practices, and/or breaches of fiduciary duty.” Oh you didn’t know? 😄 I’ll have to do a thread soon

What! 😬 nooo The idiom 班门弄斧 comes to mind
Summary: The Chinese idiom WIIF# (băn mén nòng fu) literally means "to wield an axe at the gate of Lu Ban (the master carpenter)." It vividly describes the foolish act of showing off one's amateur skills in front of a true expert. Often used self-deprecatingly to express humility, this chengyu is a cornerstone of polite and respectful communication in Chinese
culture, akin to saying "I know I'm no expert, but..." or "forgive my humble attempt."

Interestingly, that's not where Nathan and his wife Itzel are registered to vote. That's instead at this $5M house in the Windermere neighborhood of Seattle, owned by launch startup founder Jason Andrews of Andrews Space (now Firefly Aerospace). A founder giving free housing to an investor?

So, where does someone like this live? Someone like a Crow doesn't just buy a house, but behind dark money trusts and LLCs. But I am happy to dig through an anonymous trust and an estate lawyer, and report that he is likely the owner of this 8000 sq ft Clyde Hill, WA home valued at $15 million.

... #4: He worked at a law firm for just a few years, then reverted to being an heir and investor. But he's now moved to the Seattle area ("Crow lives in Seattle, Washington, with his wife Itzel..." -- Texas Jewish Post), and if I'm right, now also funding hate. www.dallasnews.com/news/2016/07...
In an interview at the end of last week, conducted before Bell-Walton filed the complaint, Stewart said he hadn't heard grumblings about his Locke Lord ties until Thursday's board meeting, when Humann brought to the park board meeting one of the Locke Lord attorneys with whom he's been working: R. Nathan Crow, a relatively new associate with the firm.
Nathan Crow is also the son of Trammell S. Crow and grandson of real estate giant Trammell Crow, founder of the Trammell Crow Co.

As a bondholder for the ST 2021S-1 Green Bonds that are secured against continued MVET / car tab revenue, I am questioning if @sound-transit.bsky.social is exercising sound fiscal management and protecting bondholder interests if it’s choosing to first go after transit users, instead of drivers.
