what were YOU playing on winamp? Post a song in the replies!

thanks! And their site (still being built) has the start of a webring

Fuck Meta Get the fuck off Meta y'all

A. Marmot 🌱 @aminus.bsky.social · 19h

that's the rub, is that who this really hurts is artists, musicians, independent journalists and so on

110

A. Marmot 🌱 @aminus.bsky.social · 19h

I largely agree but people that are artists, creators, independent journalists and so forth largely don't have very good alternatives for reaching a lot of people

I lost an account on there because it was "violating copyright", except it was only pictures of my pets and friends' pets and my own nature photography. There was zero way to contact support in response.

A. Marmot 🌱 @aminus.bsky.social · 19h

right, and yeah, it's really terrible design for any kind of security, you would lose everything

A. Marmot 🌱 @aminus.bsky.social · 20h

absurd as hell for a company as lucrative as Meta run by a billionaire with $250 billion of stolen wealth to not offer better protections and free support

1171

A. Marmot 🌱 @aminus.bsky.social · 20h

I learned when people get hacked on Instagram, losing their entire platform and work they put into it, that they can't even reach human support on instagram unless they pay for it. That is cut-and-dry extortion and Meta should be sued

realizing that I haven't received one single ko-fi donation this year, excepting a couple generous monthly subscribers that have stayed on. All support has come through commissions and a few wallpaper sales (and thank you for both!)

I want to emphasize, support comes in all different ways, not just donations, and I really appreciate you all. I'm not in this to make money either. I have had some amazing and fun commissions this year, and I'm honored by what projects I've been asked to contribute art for

it's also been, well, a year, and I've barely promoted ko-fi or the shop or my print shop, and haven't been making art as actively

I haven't gotten any new subscribers to my Patreon in quite a while, and I think that's why. I've even tried putting out extra and free content as a hook. This economy is terrible for small creators.

absolutely, I bet we're all seeing this in similar ways

“Hype is eating the future, and leaving us the bones.” Sun-ha Hong of UNC-Chapel Hill says the Silicon Valley hype machine systematically “borrows credibility from the future to purchase legitimacy in the present.” The cost, he argues, is a planetary-scale drain on our alternatives.

Tech Hype is Cannibalizing the Future

Every day, we are told that we live in the future—but hype is eating the future and leaving us the bones," writes Sun-ha Hong.

I drew Korin #pixelart

pixel art: Korin, the "god of martial arts" from Dragon Ball, a stout white cat standing upright and carrying a long wooden staff with a hammer-like top that tapers to a point at one end. He has pink ears and nose and has a smiling expression

alternate version in frame, maybe should have posted this first

4-color pixel art of a variation of Alakazam, a Pokémon that is the final form of Abra. This variation depicts him with three heads and six arms. He is a humanoid with fox-like heads, a very long mustache in the forward-facing face. He has thin orange limbs and thicker bluish sections of armored chest, forearms and knees, and wide lower legs. He is wielding spoons in each of his hands, one in front of his chest, one by his knee, two up by the heads facing to each side, and two just off the canvas and lower. Colors are reddish black, midtones of desaturated purple-blue and lighter orange, and a very light purple. Colors in the background like four of the limbs and the two heads facing to the sides are mostly in blue and black colors. Framed against a larger orange canvas with a simple pixel border
