I may very much hate gen AI and especially gen AI artwork but if the slop is inevitable a dark part of me wants it to become at least good enough to stop making viscerally horrified food illustrations. Please just use photos or doodles or anything else. Sharpie on a florescent pink paper.

I loved all three in the main series as a child but the first one holds the most positive memories. I don't think I read a fiction novel on my own before this one and it's still a high bar.

To our dismay, the artist and author Marjane Satrapi has passed away. As she wrote, ordinary Americans and Iranians have more in common with each other than we do with either of our governments, which have far too much in common with each other. We honor her memory and oppose the war.

NO WAR WITH IRAN!
The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West.
You are American, I am Iranian, we don’t know each other, but we talk together
& we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you
& your government is much bigger than the difference
between you & me.
And the difference between me
& my government is much bigger
than the difference
between me & you.
And our governments are very much the same...

Genuinely, this concern about AI is one of the reasons why I think having friction in video games is good and why it's increasingly important to have games that simply exist instead of catering to our expectations. Reposting this message from Kojima about "pre-digested" art:
And he said, "If everyone likes it, it means it's mainstream. It means it's conventional. It means it's already pre-digested for people to like it. And I don't want that. I want people to end up liking things they didn't like when they first encountered it, because that's where you really end up loving something."

All the Muppet Movies before Most Wanted are at least good and most are great or better. Even Most Wanted is ~fine~ to be honest. It's just the most disappointing as the first Disney owned movie was better than it had any right to be.

When I was in grade 9 I made this "after Keith Herring" painting. It was absolutely not intentionally a trans egg thing and the objective was to take imagery Herring used that appealed to us, but it's kinda wild how much of it could be interpreted as an egg thing.

DC's Pride offerings have been great. They have, and have had amazing gender diverse characters and creators throughout publishing history, even trailblazing at times. They could have run this character's design, powers and actions by anyone. Writer, artist and editor all screwed up here.

DC didn't need to do this. DC has Galaxy, Dreamer and Alysia Yeoh. A completely original character from a YA GN, an ancestor of a Legion character from a live action TV show, and Barbara Gordon's roommate. The stuff with Klarion is particularly so sad and awful.

the discourse on what jobs are acceptable to replace with generative AI reveals a lot about what we think of other people's jobs
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence lies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

Written by the father of a trans girl… “When society tries to police and exclude trans girls, it ends up policing all girls. Because transmisogyny does not just say, “Trans girls aren’t real girls.” It also says, “There is only one correct way to be a girl.””

Why the War on Trans Girls Is a War on Girlhood
Excluding trans girls is controlling who can be girls, and who can't, further dividing children and causing harm
