My kid killed me. We went to Tsukuba Expo center first thing this morning, and when he finally agreed to leave around lunchtime, he requested to go to an aquarium. So here we go to Sumida’s aquarium where despite complaining about the lack of shark, he got stuck 2h watching jelly fish 🪼

I felt 100 years old yesterday using the hotel’s self-check-in counter. I had to squint at the screen just to enter our information because it felt so tiny and bright, and honestly, I just wanted to talk to an actual human 😭😂

Tsukuba‘s space center was a good experience. The guided visit is amazing, they let you take a peak at the control room live(!!!!), though definitely too tough for a 4-5 year old. But he didn’t make a sound or caused a scene which is mind blowing cause in his shoes I would have had a tantrum 😅

We received the 運動会 program and they start with some ridiculous Disney gym choreography thingy and boy, would I love to have a talk about not promoting Disney stuff with them. My kid actually hates it, and we’ve been told he has refused to participate to pretty much every rehearsal.

I'm not sure if y'all saw a CNN report on how the US had almost started WW3 with China based on fabricated information generated by a chatbot, claiming that a Chinese vessel was carrying components of nuclear weapons. That was an "existential threat" to humanity www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

If I was a foreigner seated on the priority seat, leaving two pregnant women and a kid standing, you bet some rando would take a picture and complain about foreigners manners on SNS. But they’re all Japanese so, I guess no one bat an eye 🤷‍♀️

This is the last time I order on Yodobashi. I listened to my husband who wanted to avoid Amazon, which I get and I also want to avoid them. But Yodobashi messed up with our credit card (their system initiated payment request twice prompt the bank to suspect fraudulent payment).

I don’t know in which language to ask my company to schedule corporate events at better timing for parents. The past year, I believe I’ve sent comments at least 5 times, underlying that they need to take into account “commuting” to childcare facilities.

I was agonizing over what to do until my brain finally woke up: my kid uses an iPad to watch content, which is great for minimum usage, but we were concerned about the screen size. We don't want a TV/permanent screen in our home, and I didn’t want to leave iOS cause parental controls are all set up.

I realize I've been working in Japan for over a decade now (where are my 20s?!) and I'm more tuned to Japan's working culture now than any other. The other day I was asked "why do you need to seek my permission" and I'm like ほうれんそう dude, and I'm not talking about the spinach.

Got a strategy 😂. Hubby will have an emergency at work late night / early morning (which is actually what happened this weekend 🫠), while I’ll have a scheduled interview (which is also plausible cause the people I’m planning to interview are working FT so I’ll work around their schedule)

I thought I’d be free after this horrible work week, but I see the next couple ones will be as terrible. Top that with having to do the 参加 at kindergarten which ofc confused my child (“why is mama here? Am I going home too 🤩”) and they had to rip him from me crying and snotty and screaming 帰りたい.

My garden is always the most beautiful thing.
An extremely small Japanese moss garden with an old stone lantern, a water feature, a fern, a camellia tree, and rocks. The moss is almost neon green. There are plants and tiny fish in the water.

This is probably the most important step. But not just bike lanes. Protected bike lanes. It makes a major difference. And then start ticketing drivers for speeding and running stoplights.

This is awful. I had two accidents commuting to work by bicycle, one with a cyclist who ran through a red light. The second with a taxi door opening on the bicycle lane in Roppongi. For some reason, call it instinct, I had slowed down enough that I didn’t fly over the door. youtu.be/nuZ5WbBdB1w?...
