Many, many, many years ago Chris Thorpe and I ran a workshop at NSDF which included the very young (and already talented) Nick Payne on how structure is story. We played with telling stories in different order can change the meaning. It’s nice to feel a bit part in a great writer’s journey.

There’s also the deep seated horror of dependence. My generation & my parents were raised to not be helpless or dependent and they’d rather die than be helpless (my parents have living wills that ask to be denied medical help if mentally incapacitated)
