Re The idea that bigots about gender/sexual deviance must just be closeted: I've never understood this, except as a, maybe subconscious but not always, "I'm gonna suggest the homophobic guy is gay to make him mad" sort of reaction. So whenever I hear it I interpret it, also, as bigotry.

I really don’t think that’s the case. I do think that probably these people hate femininity, which they see as weakness. But that doesn’t mean that they are secretly gay or trans. And I think that it does damage to insist that they are. Maybe some are, but definitely not all.

there are criminal codes from a thousand years ago in england outlawing us and we're still here. The oldest "liber monstorum" book of monsters put on us on the very first page, and we're still here. The Nazis put us into camps as fast as they could, and we're still here.

I just coined the phrase 'trans fixed arm syndrome'. Eg. "I'm on feminising HRT and it seems that I may have a number of problems that 'disproportionately affect women'. Perhaps we could consider assessing me for those?" Doctor: "Nah, that sounds unlikely because of your assigned birth sex."

this is such a good and astute way to put it; so much gender critical feminism seems to stem from the belief that being a woman is a uniquely awful thing, and I mean no one's arguing that living in a patriarchal society as a woman is always a riot but what a depressing and pessismistic view of life!

Had a recent Zoom meeting where the ai recording was left on. It caught conversation while we waited for others to join and made it an item. Interestingly, it misgendered me? I checked and I have pronouns set in my account so it's apparently just going off vibes. Or my name. Anyway, abolish ai.

Anecdote: As I was almost home yesterday, wearing this outfit, I'm 90% certain someone in a car (wrap-around sunglasses flavour) was filming or taking photos of me as I walked past. I looked at them, making sure they knew that I knew they were being creepy. I'll never understand this behaviour.

Yesterday marked three (3) years since I started taking oestrogen. There's not a lot to say about it. It's just my life now. I keep playing with new outfit styles and this is one that I liked recently. I don't know if I've found what I like and I'm now settling in, or if I'm just getting started.
A full-body mirror selfie from my bedroom. I am wearing a peachy-pink turtleneck under a short, white jacket. One hand is casually in the pocket of a calf-length skirt with pink floral patterns. I am wearing white converse platform boots. Taffy is resting on the bed just behind me, watching what's going on.

I got my mobility parking permit extended by 6 months today! (It's usually 3, but that's annoying because this feels like it's with me forever.) But I still can't apply online because of non-binaryphobia so I'll make my way to a service centre tomorrow on my day off and use up my week's energy =/

Ursula K. LeGuin, "American SF and the Other," 1975.
If you deny any affinity with another person or kind of person, if you declare it to be wholly different from yourself-as men have done to women, and class has done to class, and nation has done to nation-you may hate it or deify it; but in either case you have denied its spiritual equality and its human reality. You have made it into a thing, to which the only possible relationship is a power relationship. And thus you have fatally impoverished your own real-ity. You have, in fact, alienated yourself.

Hegemonic masculinity is usually defined as autonomy, independence, leadership---that which women are not supposed to possess nor aspire to. Gender is in and of itself an act of excluding women from humanity and agency, drawing a boundary between those who possess and those who are possessed.

Please read, sign (if you are a cis woman) and share! Far right politicians think attacking trans people is a strategy that will help them erode everyone's basic rights because no one will stand up and support us. Show them they are wrong! Teach them how solidarity works!

I don't use AI in my personal or professional writing, and will never, so some dipshit saying that actually everyone uses it is untrue in the same way that saying that nobody washes their hands after using the bathroom is untrue -- a lie to excuse a repulsive personal failing.

I’d love to see journalism exploring the mass deletion of SWs off X in conjunction with the rise of grok’s porn bots. There’s a certain tech bro fantasy of AI as a tool of economic deprivation against SWs. The deep resentment at the financial independence of online SW seems to have come to a head.

Mardi Gras Community Sentiment Survey For Trans and Gender Diverse People docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... If you have any thoughts about how welcome you feel at Mardi Gras as a trans and/or gender diverse person, please take a look 💙💖🤍💖💙
Instagram tile advertising the survey. Background image is at least 16 cockatoos on a roof during late afternoon with sunset lighting on trees in the back. Trans Justice Sydney logo is at the top.Screenshot of text that reads:

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is a major event on the queer calendar. It means something different to everyone, and it is a great opportunity for our communities to be seen and heard internationally, to be celebrated, and have our daily existence better understood and supported outside of this busy season.

However, some people feel more welcome and catered to than others. This can be due to happenstance, or something to do with the design and implementation of the many events that makes them feel it’s not for them.

Trans Justice Sydney have been invited to a conversation to discuss what the trans and gender diverse community want from Mardi Gras - what works, and what could make it better for us.

We would love to hear from broader community about what is important to you.

If you’re trans and/or gender diverse, and have even the smallest investment in the future of Mardi Gras, please complete our survey and tell us your story.

I prefer no (third-person) pronouns, but they/them is fine. This is an explanation as to what this means for me, because it is confusing. I'm agender and I feel they/them is okay because it's non-gendered - at least in a binary way. It's not too difficult to use, and I don't feel too inconvenient.

I want people to know what’s going down at one of Maganjin’s oldest and most important queer venues tonight. What isn’t said below - most of this happened with only a few hours of notice. The crowd is choking the venue on all sides. There is a world beyond genocidal bloodthirst and it’s beautiful.
A social post by Nat Farah describing a protest outside The Wickham hotel in Maganjin, which is hosting a meeting of the Queensland Zionist Council against the wishes of staff and community. The post enthuses about the solidarity shown by workers with the Palestinian cause, with some having quit in protest or refused to work during the meeting. It describes security guards distributing pizzas to protesters and asserting that the workers united will never be defeated.

Someone was showing me videos in my dream, but they were obviously ai generated. I appreciate that human creativity (a dream) could perfectly replicate the gross, unsettling, uncanny valley look of objects in movement, while ai tries to replicate reality and just ends up looking like trash.

I have been using queer use to refer to how things can be used in ways other than for which they were intended or by those other than for whom they were intended. I did not realize when I first used queer use in this way that it had been used like this before: queer use as reused. In fact you can find many newspaper articles from the late nineteenth century that use queer use in exactly this way—articles that refer to the queer uses of cups, bicycles, cigars, and cloisters. One article that appeared in the Los Angeles Herald on August 28, 1899, is titled “Queer Use for Cloisters.” It stated: “The cloisters of the Church of St. Ethelreda, Ely palace, Holborn, London, are now being used for a purpose very different from that for which they were originally intended. Father Jarvis . . . has placed them at the disposal of any cyclist who may wish to store his machine while at- tending divine services.”1 One wonders whether cloisters could be used to store more than “his machines.” Queer use is used here in a similar way to how I have been using it: queer use as when you use something for a pur- pose that is “very different” from that which was “originally intended.”
