I'm heartbroken. My daughter's living community and club will both be affected. She knows people who will be fired because of this bill. We wrote letters and we protested and we called and we were ignored. I HATE this.

The funding for these long COVID research grants was given back bc disability activists urged us to contact our reps persistently, in high volume, and we did. Remember that these tactics work the next time someone tries to get you to passively react instead of taking an active part in organizing!

This returned funding is a rare win for Long COVID advocates and researchers amid a climate of fear and uncertainty. Earlier in the week, the Trump administration ordered the closure of the federal government's Office of Long COVID Research and Practice as part of a wider restructuring of health agencies, and last month, it terminated a federal advisory_committee on Long_COVID.

Long COVID advocates stepped up to contact their representatives and advocate for RECOVER funding and other federal Long COVID initiatives to remain in place. While the research program's broader future remains uncertain, these restored grants are a significant milestone, said RECOVER patient representative Megan Fitzgerald.

"This is so significant because it allows critical studies to better understand how Long COVID affects the body, identify treatment targets, and develop new therapies," she wrote in an email to The Sick Times.
"I'm especially relieved as a parent that this reinstates really important funding for studies in kids. And I think we can all breathe a little easier knowing that all the hard work of patients and researchers over the last few years won't go to waste."

For one kid in our neighborhood, I am an eccentric old lady. We have this great kid who cuts our grass, but I hate answering the door. He figured that out, and started sending a $1 request through cash app. If I pay, he knows to come cut the grass—we communicate almost exclusively this way. 🤣

There are little interim things for people with low bandwidth that don’t want to make calls: Vote Forward is letter writing and Postcards to Voters is postcarding for elections in a variety of states including help for special elections outside of your own. You cover supplies and postage. And time.

I had the same experience recently. I don’t think I’ll ever check back again. The people who won’t leave the platform are isolating themselves and that’s kind of on them at this point, imo.

Half of our neighbors blindly support what’s happening, and a large percentage of people have no actual idea what’s happening because they “avoid politics.” Those of us who are paying attention are trying to do things, but it’s a big country with pockets of resistance who are literally mikes apart.

All the people saying Americans should be resisting more—what should we be doing? Truly, I’m asking. There are protests and marches and demonstrations, but they are local and aren’t being widely covered. Many of us can’t get to D.C. easily because we literally can’t afford it.

Not only hers, but several of the living communities and clubs on campus that were specifically designed for the purpose of inclusion. The queer club, several clubs for people of color to find their community, etc. I hate it here.

Just sent a committee at my state house a letter because they are discussing a bill to remove state funding from any state institution that has any DEI protections in place. My daughter lives in the queer living community on campus. If they pass this bill, the school would likely shut it down.

I 100% feel that. My husband and I have been playing Division since the first one came out, and the thoroughness of the story is one of the reasons I liked it to begin with. It feels like something that could happen, just never thought it'd happen in my lifetime. These days, I'm not so sure. >.<

He was Big Mad that we weren’t having school. He wanted his “education.” 🤓 📚

Kiddo and I often do his schoolwork cuddled up under the blankets in my bed, and Taco has gotten used to this and curls up with us. This morning, we had class later than normal—I didn’t understand why Taco was meowing at me until we came in for class. 🤣
