What a week to have a book out about political corruption and powerful, abusive men! At least in my novel they get their comeuppance. My first Anna Sharpe thriller. Out today in all formats in the UK, and in eBook and audio in the US. #NotesOnADrowning annamazzola.com/notes-on-a-d...

When you’ve started reading a book and it’s brilliant, and don’t want to put it down. @amandajennings.bsky.social I am hooked on #BeautifulPeople. Thanks so much for sending it! xx

I also crept back on to Twitter/X when my book came out and I need to turn away from that cesspit. I’ve been rowing with weird American Trumpers and misogynists. This is not as fun as my apparent commitment to it would have me believe…

Also, I’ve spent the last two books not reading any Amazon/Goodreads reviews at all and I was happy. But I’ve forgotten all my own advice. Obviously. #StoopidWriterBrain

Despite all the good stuff, Amazon glitch has split the editions and taken a nice lot of 5 star reviews with audio and left the other editions without, which has brought average down. They are trying to fix it. Reason tells me not to worry but #WriterBrain thinks ‘reason’ is for losers… 😖😭🤷‍♀️

Very pleased to see #BeautifulPeople selected as an Editor’s Pick in That’s Life magazine’s Crime Scene special. Thank you so much! ‘This brilliant tale of privilege, class and angst about being able to ‘fit in’ is absolutely mesmerising.’ 😊🙏😊

Met up with university friends for dinner tonight. We met 32yrs ago in our first week at university. There’s something very life affirming being with old friends. Discussing changes, transitions, life events, telling each other we haven’t changed a bit. Lovely

Trouble is I don’t think anybody really enjoyed watching It’s Two Gs Wallace enough to leap to his defence or wave an apologist’s flag. The man won’t be on our screens again? *unbothered shrug*

Meetcutesnyc and Meetcutesldn are Insta accs where couples are stopped in the street and asked how they met, what they’re looking forward to, what they love about each other. If a male/female, almost 100% the woman says her favourite thing is his kindness. Not looks, money, status. Always kindness

A fantastic review of Beautiful People in Platinum Magazine from Adele Parks. ‘This novel walks a tightrope between incredibly glamorous and deeply dark, asking the question whether money and power can buy anything, even silence.’ Thank you to Adele and Platinum! 🥰 🙌

Anyway. Who’s for a cup of tea? I’ve a really busy day today so it’s important I spend time lying in bed on my phone, talking to you whilst drinking tea to make myself late and add tension and jeopardy to my day. Authors love adding tension and jeopardy to perfectly pleasant days

I joined Twitter in 2009. At first I didn’t get in. Then by chance a tweet went viral, shared by Tate Britain. A light went off. It was genius. So exciting. I fell deeply in love. Laughed a lot. Then it changed and became mean and unkind. I fell out of love. Some love affairs don’t last forever.

Went back to the other place to check I hadn’t left the oven on or a window open, made the mistake of saying an election is an election, petition or not, and got harangued by an Andrew Tate stan who told me to stick to books and not concern myself with things I don’t understand. Ah, X, bless you

Anyway, how were your weekends? Mine was lovely. Two out of three children (the grown up variety) birthdays - yesterday and today - so had 16 family/close friends over, cake, beef bourguignon, presents. Like Christmas in fact. Which is why I can never cope with CAROLS IN NOVEMBER

Today’s poem is called ‘She’d Dance’.
She’d Dance

She’d dance like no one was watching
although she liked to think he was.
The kitchen was her grand ballroom;
her partner was a mop.

She’d foxtrot among the pots and pans,
she’d paso doble to the sink,
and as she swept across the floor,
her mind danced, too. She’d think

of how he’d held her in his arms
at the Locarno and the Ritz -
whirling, waltzing, a world apart -
in the years before the kids,

and longer still before the shadow
the doctor spotted on his lungs.
How dazzlingly they had danced!
How dizzyingly she had spun!

Her neighbours saw her sometimes,
shuffling bent-backed to the shops.
But at home, she’d dance like no one was watching
although she liked to think he was.

#NotesOnADrowning by Anna Sharpe @annamazz.bsky.social Ooo, this is a belter. Slick, pacy, with tension that ratchets up in the most delicious way. Add in masterful plotting, witty dialogue, some sleazy, powerful people behaving badly, and you've a surefire hit. Out Jan 25! @orionbooks.bsky.social

We watched Kneecap on Prime last night and loved it. Made even better by knowing that the lead actors were all playing themselves in - I believe - a fictionalised story. Oh, and Michael Fassbender. Drugs, language, sex, but if you don't mind that then check it out.
