Last night while showering I wondered about the word origins of the word "conditioner," so now you're all getting an etymology lesson today. [NGL, one of the best perks of my job is access to the Oxford English Dictionary.]

I read 105 books in 2025! My Top 10: 10: Temeraire (series) by Naomi Novik - I finally finished it! This series is basically what if the Napoleonic Wars had dragons? It’s really good. I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone (it can be a bit dry and battle-focused?) but it was extremely my jam. #booksky

I need the @calm.com app to know that you all dropped a new BFG sleep story today and it is going to do NUMBERS at our house. My kiddo Minerva has basically worn the other two out, so we are so grateful. And thank you to Jerome Flynn, too! You’ve got a 5yo big fan who wants the whole audiobook.

The earliest known example of ‘brain rot’ comes from Henry David Thoreau in his 1854 book “Walden.” “While England endeavors to cure the potato-rot, will not any endeavor to cure the brain-rot, which prevails so much more widely and fatally?”

The project I've worked on for the last six months is live today! I'm a complex mix of relieved, panicked, happy beyond belief and dead-eyed realization that this was just the first step of several.

Printing presses kept their letters in cases. Capital letters went in the upper case. Smaller letters went in the lower case. This is why we say ‘UPPER CASE’ and ‘lower case.’ Ok, but what did we call them before the invention of the printing press? MAJUSCULE and minuscule.
