I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

At a really fundamental level Leo XIV is just a person with sound, well-reasoned, moral stances on the world and how life should be lived who isn't afraid to say those things in public. That kind of person simply does not make sense to business leaders and politicians for whom speech is convenience.

I never understood this fully until Covid: actual circumstances that doomsday preppers should have embraced...and they just couldn't. They'd spent years in maladaptive daydreams about hunting other humans and couldn't come to grips with the fact that they just needed to mask up and stay home.

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.

The Democrats defend the Kennedy Center but not trans people.

maybe because defending everything about a super small minority of the population is not worth losing to fascists

The bellwether for any politician should be "human rights for everyone." Because if human rights don't apply to ALL humans, then they aren't "human rights" they're just demographics to manipulate for political gain. Empathy is a prerequisite, not an optional trait.

Republicans frame any discussion of income disparity as 'communist' or 'socialist' to hide the fact that any economic philosophy, including capitalism, can be (and in the U.S., has been) subordinated to a wealthy few that only seeks even more power at the expense of those that actually do the work.

My main takeaway was that trying to scientifically define biologically distinct competition categories of “women” and “men” is always going to be a nightmare and deeply harmful because human sex is complicated and people cannot (and should not) be forcibly categorized through sex testing.

There were barricades everywhere for the event and plenty of security present throughout. The van drove in to a large park that was filled with festival goers from the other side of the park. It is not exactly an easy park to just drive into, even when there aren’t fest security measures in place.
