in the midst of it all, I find my ideas of “perfection” changing, my need to be “perfect” disappearing. perfect body (whatever that is), perfect cv, perfect writing, perfect tone, perfectly curated persona. all the “perfect” interruptions to a really and truly and unapologetically lived life

It´s Friday, it's raining- and most of us have a safe place to stay, away from the rain and the cold. Palestinians do not have this luxury, the situation is catastrophic and wishing it away won´t help. But you can help by sharing and donating, you can offer real, tangible help. Please do.

“I try to forget violence. but isn’t art all about spectacle?” my recent poems, written in despair, while witnessing and losing & deep in darkness, circle questions of commodification & capitalism. this is a system that causes pain, thrives on our hurt & refuses to see even amidst all the scrolling
A woman swims in the pacific ocean. Only her head and shoulders are visible. The water looks rough with waves on the horizon and the foreground. The sky is foggy and overcast.BLANK WHITE SKY

in edinburgh fog
our margins disappear.
even the birds, their historic outlines
don’t interrupt

algebraic grey
as if the frost and the vanishing
together are a sacred act
birds themselves
are beholden to. it's okay
to walk through
an empty field and keep walking,
confessional poems

your only witness.
it’s okay to be a woman
who doesn’t want to be seen.
somehow I have arrived

in a blank white photograph
of a blank white sky and I
am the only object,
the only small brown dot.
I try to forget violence. but isn’t art
all about spectacle?
sitting at a round table

with seventeen chairs
tucked inside, I think poetry
is a frightened
animal disappearing into itself.

if not fear, then disruption –
a line of thought I too easily
interpret as my own trembling
biology –

don’t let me ask

for forgiveness or gentleness anymore.
a lark makes
a sound and abrades the silence.
I want to become
tendrils of better women
who already know
there is no harm in dissolving,
in letting our glitches
become good memories instead
of a new way to hurt.
I want to leak
from the margins of this landscape
and move across the frosted grassland
of the past.
Let wonder leave its philosophies
behind me.

thinking back to when I used to write poetry maybe clumsily, but with a real, untameable passion. every image, every sensation, was brand new. every line was a portal, even if just back to myself. the poems are possibly better now, but sometimes they feel empty, lacking in vigour, lacking in life.

I've written a little bit about grief [spoiler, it's lonely and unbearable] in this kind of fragmentary short piece about waves. open.substack.com/pub/elsewher...
A navy blue graphic with the title "the waves, the waves: conversations about grief". At the bottom is a photo of Alycia wearing a white shirt and a skirt, walking into the ocean waves.Contains the following text:

I hosted. I felt pleasure. I desired. I lied. I stood in a crowd. I was in relation.

grief/grieving

so

fucking

lonely.

Black text on background of Trans Solidarity Flag: Fossil Free Books stands in solidarity with our trans siblings. We are united in our anger at the Supreme Court ruling and EHRC update.

Rather than providing “clarity”, this ruling and the EHRC interim update are causing confusion, uncertainty and fear.

They have also given strength to the authoritarian, sexist campaign for the persecution and ostracism of trans women.

Trans, non-binary and intersex people – including bookworkers – are facing exclusion from basic aspects of public life.
