The worst ideas in education, from K-16, are coming from AEI. They are the biggest funders and supporters of the right-wing university “reform” and “intellectual diversity” movements. Unfortunately AEI is also deeply influential with policymakers and administrators. cfau.aei.org

I guess this is important. But I feel that Americans increasjngly value “life” over “freedom” & if we don’t equally punish those attacking democracy & doing white collar crimes, we weaken our liberties & make life miserable for all.

Pharos is only one of a number of such institutes funded by right-wing hedge-fund managers and similar which are battering at academic independence by selectively showering funding and fellowships on an ideologically compatible few. Have a look too at www.canterbury.institute.

This is the wrong framing - what you should be pointing out is that the Pentagon works for us, and we have a say in Congress whether it gets funding or not, so get loud and angry people.

Star Trek is now fully and completely owned by the dark side. It's like the worst Star Trek episode ever. This merger is going to allow for the MAGAfication of one of the only bright articulations of humanity's possible future. I feel just sick about it.

When you compare how much right-wing funding is going into their version of the humanities in higher ed ("civil discourse," "civic thought," "intellectual freedom") vs how little public or private funding there is for peer-reviewed humanities scholarship & teaching, it really makes you think.

Democrats defend "science," but what they really should be defending is "wissenschaft." No major social problems - from global warming to AI - can be solved without non-commercial research across multiple fields, including the social sciences and humanities. Really wish the party understood this.
