Climate change is as straightforward as it gets: Democrats vote to address it and Republicans vote not to. There's a weird tic among the pundit class where they think saying "it's more complicated than that" is the intelligent stance on everything but sometimes it's not complicated!

On the one hand, conservatives deny climate change exists and oppose policies to address it. On the other hand, liberals haven’t convinced conservatives that climate change exists and haven’t offered pain-free solutions. Hence, it’s complicated.

There's also, slightly more bleakly, the UK Cass Report. An audit of medical records showed trans kids waiting years for appointments and having an average of 7 assessments before receiving any care. Anti-trans activists said it was proof kids were being rushed into transition.

My favorite example of this is the lab leak, where LEAKED SECRET SLACK MESSAGES show scientists going "wow, this could really be a lab leak," then investigating, finding no evidence and moving on. To this day conspiracy theorists claim the chats prove the leak is real.

I'm sure it wasn't the first time it happened, but this was the first time I noticed the pattern where conspiracy theorists declare complete vindication on the basis of LEAKED SECRET DOCUMENTS that even more strongly prove that they are wrong.

there literally is no system that is abuse proof, so at a certain point you’re just against the abstract concept of authority or power in general. I think about this when it comes to ALPRs for traffic enforcement. Like if you want to have laws at all, you have to give someone power.

The Texas Cattle Feeders Association getting ratio'd on X the everything app over their "arresting all our workers isn't helping on beef prices" tweet, lol and lmao
Texas Cattle Feeders Association @txcattlefeeders

A joint statement from Texas Cattle Feeders Association, Kansas Livestock Association and Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association regarding the ongoing ICE operations in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas:

“The Kansas Livestock Association, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and Texas Cattle Feeders Association are closely monitoring reported U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity affecting agricultural communities in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas.

Our organizations respect the responsibility of federal agencies to enforce the law. At the same time, cattle producers, feedyards, dairies, livestock markets, processors, and other rural businesses depend on a stable workforce to care for animals, protect food safety, and keep the supply chains operating. Sudden workforce disruptions can create immediate animal-welfare, operational, and economic consequences that extend well beyond an individual business. These ICE operations are having a massive chilling effect on the legal, documented, skilled workers that put beef on the table and keep the cattle supply chain moving. Additionally, these types of disruptions will lead to higher beef prices for consumers.

Reported impacts to our organizations throughout the past few days have been:
- Thousands of fed cattle slated for shipping to processors now delayed, resulting in millions of dollars in lost revenue and additional costs.
- Workforce disruptions at numerous supply chain chokepoints such as feedyards, dairies, processors, feed and grain companies, transportation hubs, and community services.

These disruptions come at a time of enhanced focus and pressure on the cattle and beef supply chain. They are a costly and unnecessary impact to cattle producers already suffering from unwelcome political interference to both the markets as well as the physical supply chain. Frustratingly, the harm these actions cause to cattle producers last for days and weeks after such operatio…
