PragProg had an interesting email the other day day, suggesting AI is useful with a high-quality code base, but the lower the code quality the more problematic the AI-generated code. If there’s interest, I’ll try and dig it up. In the meantime, I’m still chewing on this: arxiv.org/html/2203.04...

Ms Rachel from the top ropes
From Ms Rachel's account on Threads, she writes, "CORECIVIC, a company that makes hundreds of millions locking up KIDS in immigration detention
has a PAC that's sending campaign checks to Senator Susan Collins of Maine.
Susan Collins chairs the Senate committee that writes ICE's budget.
ICE is CoreCivic's customer.
The company gets paid out of a budget she controls, and it pays into her campaign."

The list of reasons to impeach Trump is long, but the Omar raid is beyond sufficient reason to impeach Trump and Blanche. In fact, if they do not impeach him over it, they have failed the Constitution and our Republic.

(Four separate occasions last month the HVAC alarm would sound for *hours* next to the office space, but no one in the building has access to that locked door.)

I’ve not been able to convince leadership to require the facilities director to come and turn off the HVAC power-interrupt alarm. If their facilities director is anything like ours, they are both lazy and incompetent, and unwilling to do anything that requires entering the building(s) they support.

This story makes it sound like the major problem is that the Trump Admin did this w/in 60 days of an election. Yes, that's a real abuse. But the major problem is they're basically threatening to denaturalize an opposition legislator, based on racist insinuations. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/u...

The search takes place within the 60-day window of the midterm elections, when the Justice Department has historically avoided such investigative steps related to political candidates.

This is outrageous, despotic shit and everyone who played a role in it should lose their place in polite society. Show us the warrant. Who asked for it? What did they claim? Have there been grand jury proceedings? Who was in charge? And what judge, if any, signed off on the search warrant?

Unsurprisingly, four days later, mathematicians have weighed in. And the results are equivocally valuable at best. More importantly the dump has flooded the zone with shit, which is precisely in line with this industry’s weaponized agnotology. Now actual scholars have to waste their time on this.

And for those who are not academics: heaving a pile of papers that haven’t gone through peer review and going “here, you sort this out for us and prove us wrong” isn’t scholarship. It’s a hurricane shitting on an earthquake and demanding the professionals come clean it up.

The “permit” line of argument felt disingenuous. The “insufficient inspectors” argument even moreso. Most basic repairs don’t require a permit. The city can hire more inspectors … if they think the volume of work will increase significantly, they are tacitly admitting there’s a major problem.
