PDS hosters: folks should not have PDS_INVITE_REQUIRED=false in their config unless they know what they are doing. at a minimum you need CAPTCHAs on all signup routes, to block/disable the createAccount API flow, etc. we know this should be smoother.

Short outage in the last hour due to a regular kernel update reboot somehow breaking my hand crafted docker networking for the PDS. It is now reverted to host mode and everything is working again.

About 20 minutes ago I had to restart the PDS docker service manually, as all requests to the Bluesky infrastructure ended up in 5xx replies, according to the logs. This was the first time I had to do this. I noticed that my feed was not working anymore (timeout error).

If you use PDS Gatekeeper you will want to make this change manually to your /pds/composer.yaml instead of using pdsadmin update. Using pdsadmin update clears out your current compose with the one from the PDS repo. Should be a oneliner change

FTR the app-view is up and has been for a few weeks. Ingesting terabytes of social media data is not trivial. I've worked to re-implement some experimental work by Divy into rsky-ingester, rsky-backfiller, and rsky-indexer When it's production ready, it'll move off of staging.blacksky.community

put out a new 'goat' release (v0.1.2) with basic support for PDS administration ('goat pds admin ...'). if you run it from a PDS instance it should find admin auth info automatically. hope to have this replace the 'pdsadmin' shell script over time

Blobs are now loaded directly from the PDS, no more bsky CDN They are not automatically loaded in the jetstream view, or while previewing records on the collection page, only in the record view, to keep load on PDSes reasonable

TIL that the `pdsadmin update` command does not really update the PDS image. It does not pull a newer version, it seems, but it will overwrite the `compose.yml` file (which erases the webroot binding for my custom web page). A manual "docker pull ghcr.io/bluesky-social/pds:0.4 " will do the trick.

This is fun: Use a split pane view with your Bluesky tab on one side and -> microcosm-jetstream-web.pages.dev/mapView/ on the other side. Then find and highlight your PDS in the map. If it is a low usage PDS like me, it will highlight every time a repository change gets send out (e.g. a "like").

FYI #atproto: I updated my PDS manually to 0.4.136 (backup first) with -> docker image pull ghcr.io/bluesky-social/pds:0.4 systemctl restart pds Apparently there was a minor issue with db migration, which can result in some errors/restarts, but no data loss. Details -> github.com/bluesky-soci...
