I have read zero articles about Trump-era contracting scandals that name the contracting officer who signed the contract. It’s bizarre.

Aren't these just their own terms of service? People have the right to refuse service, if its not for discriminatory intent or effect. In other cases its not about aligned moralities. You are litterally enabling a moralizing of this. And the entire moral stances is based on the chatbots "feelings"

No, but really, outsourcing our own moral discernment to the talking word toaster is not reasonable or ultimately positive for humans so it’s okay. It is a machine. There’s no mortality to it being used as a machine. You don’t remote lock a guy for cussing out his tractor. What are we doing here?

“AI” won’t solve Indigenous peoples’ healthcare gaps. @emilymbender.bsky.social and I speak with Keoni Mahelona, CTO of Te Hiku Media, about his work on Indigenous data sovereignty, and why it’s worth being skeptical when the “AI" industry says it cares about preserving Indigenous languages.

The Anthropic, Meta, and Google "breaking containment" incidents all resulted from setup errors (or a stunt) by the same company: Irregular. Irregular created a sandbox that wasn't really a sandbox because it had a live internet connection, and gave instructions that were then carried out online.

Op-Ed: From the Bargaining Table to Olympia, Educators Need Our Support Now
Seattle's teachers union is fighting for a better contract, with reducing class sizes and preventing special education cuts among top aims. It's an issue state legislators have long let fester, says Kelabe Tewolde, an educator and state House candidate in the 37th LD.

claim AI is present in so many ways. People concerned may do so too. The concerns are very legitimate. But lets think very hard before we think pulling kids out of public school for yet another reason, is the solution. Maybe we need to start with supporting the educators...

attendance. Pulling kids out of public schools is EXACTLY what people pushing "AI"- define the technology, we are talking about rampant LLM use (every machine learning model has a name and is based on some sort of math-based algorithm, not sentience). "AI" peddlers in Seattle may be excited to

maybe not the place for it, but this comment begs the need for a nuanced discussion. I have personally been very vocal to people (a pretty limited set in Seattle, as who the hell am I?). Pulling kids from public school scares the shit out of me in a city that already has 2nd highest private school

Look at these two charts. Two serious safety issues—homicides and pedestrian traffic deaths—which cause immense heartbreak and loss to Seattle communities. Both have seen concerning trends in the last decade. Are they both taken seriously by local media and policy makers?

Two Black mayors took cities that the country loves to write off and made them measurably safer. That’s not a fluke. That’s a blueprint. Chicago and Baltimore just posted numbers that should be front-page news. They’re not. We need to talk about why. 🧵 www.theroot.com/opinion-blac...

My latest on the ordinance about grocery algorithmic pricing discrimination currently being discussed in Seattle. You might remember a state bill earlier this year (that didn't make it through) grappling with the same subject. This would be potential model legislation for cities across the US.
