I visited the Nicholas Roerich museum on 107th in 2023 and happened to walk by this sculpture when leaving! It was fascinating to learn about it from the plaque and learning more afterwards with research. Even more cool to learn about the connection to you.

I should clarify: I think the idea in part is that you can’t know all the infinite possible starting inputs so you will never be able to predict everything. But perhaps with more computing power you can see further and see more patterned predictability?

The math is beyond me but the concepts are there and interesting and fascinating. I do wonder (from a lay perspective) how chaotic is chaos or if there are patters there that we can’t yet describe or don’t have the math for yet.

You get this effect with streetlamp light filtering through trees too, more noticeable now with LED light replacing the traditional ones. The small gaps between the leaves act as natural pinhole cameras, projecting precise images of the street lamp’s LED matrix onto the ground or nearby surfaces.

Because I am struggling to juggle all the roles my job has heaped upon me and go to the gym and eat and sleep. I also really enjoyed (when I was young and Connections wasn’t a thing yet) 3-2-1 Contact and a Canadian show called What Will They Think Of Next. Now I am just rambling.

There is a whole discussion to be had on how chasing authenticity has actually ruined a lot of things and created a lot of gatekeeping. We keep searching for the source of purity when that isn’t really how things evolve or are.

Oh, I wasn’t making it out to be a bad thing. That practice was common even for Da Vinci, Michelangelo, etc. more a comment that his prolific output is partly accomplished with assistance.

I have seen a number of his paintings and sculptures. He is pretty prolific, though I suspect that he is much like many other artists that has a workshop doing a lot of the grunt work.
