I've never heard of it but that cover is really cool.

I agree. No matter how hard you try, somebody somewhere is going to think it's hot. So you might as well not worry about it and just make the werewolf you think is cool.

Just post super ambiguous screenshots so it's not clear what the genre is. Then blame genre reveal party. Gotta play games where people guess the genre!

I've been very on the fence about this game but this beautiful article might just have pushed me into buying it.

OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

I have the same problem. I'm slowly leaning towards just coding my own solution because I'm having trouble finding solutions I like. As soon as I finish my current project for a friend, something to help organize my music is next.

WELL NOW, would you look at that? A massive, 26-YEAR-LONG study of MORE THAN 2.4 MILLION people in Sweden found NO EVIDENCE to support a causal link between acetaminophen (the API in Tylenol) use during pregnancy and increased risk of autism, ADHD, OR intellectual disability in children.

I like the choice to use "stacking the deck" considering you're making a TCG. Two thumbs up from me.

Part of the reason I think they can't wait 5 years is that they want to double revenue NOW and if they wait 5 years then they feel like this year they've lost money.

Regardless, I refuse to use LLM based tools in my personal life, I won't read books, listen to music, or play games if ANY part of them was generated. I feel like a hypocrite that I occasionally have no choice but to use it for work occasionally but more and more I'm actively avoiding it there too.
000
Alphagold3 @alphagold3.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
To be fair, the LLM did produce "a" diagram faster than me. But most of the time was spent trying to get the AI to fix mistakes and rearrange elements so it was readable. Whereas mine was useful/readable from the first draft, the LLM generated one didn't really improve over time.

Alphagold3 @alphagold3.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I was explicitly told to use AI to create some diagrams and so I did. But at the same time I started creating my own. In the end, I finished first and with a better product. I showed both versions to my bosses without explaining which was which. Mine was actually useful.

It gets worse now that my job doesn't involve coding but advising people on code. I can produce a slideshow, spreadsheet, or system diagram more accurately and with higher quality in about the same time as the LLM can do it. I tested it.

Alphagold3 @alphagold3.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Speed is secondary to quality for me. Low quality code is unmaintainable and error-prone. I've built my career on fixing unmaintainable buggy code and writing high quality easy-to-read code. I'm not going to contribute to the problem by using a tool that is only capable of bad code.

Alphagold3 @alphagold3.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I recently started a new job after 8 months of searching. However I spend most days worrying that I'll be let go because I only use LLM-based "AI" whenever I am explicitly told to use it and I haven't embraced it wholeheartedly. But it sucks. Sure it produces crap fast but it's just crap.

Duke Nukem. The original 2D sidescroller. The first time I can remember getting in trouble over video games was doodling my own levels for it during class in 2nd grade.

Alphagold3 @alphagold3.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
I started a new job several weeks ago. It involves 0 coding. Talking about code, yes, but no writing of code. I miss coding. I had to make time to write some today on a personal project and dang does it feel good to write some code.

Alphagold3 @alphagold3.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
And even with the JS/TS, it's likely that code is incredibly hard to maintain because it's probably full of junk code. It may even include some surprise security vulnerabilities hidden inside. And it's probably too much code for it to be fully human-reviewed.

holy shit, this is the whole ballgame in a single paragraph gAI systems require mass theft of copyrighted works, for the explicit purpose of replacing the market for the people they stole from, and the people in charge knew what they were doing ahead of time, and did it anyway

So what you're saying is you've got a list of games that use AI that didn't disclose it that need to go on my "do not buy" list. But I'm guessing you can't share it publicly?

I've seen a lot of game companies use Gen AI in their games without telling people, getting caught, then doing a game update and announcing they "removed all the GenAI". Honestly I can't trust them. If they used it for art it's highly likely they used it for code and that can't be removed.

If they used LLMs to write any code at all then there is definitely generative AI in it.

The closest boardgame store to me has been bought by a new owner. RIP old board game store. The new one has barely any games, awkward lighting and decorations and waaaay too many tables for its size. The old one was cozy and inviting with tons of games to buy. It will be missed.

The two art styles are so different that I can't directly compare them. I like them both for vastly different reasons.

For me, any estimate for how long I think it'll take me to do a project, I double or triple that estimate before I present it to anyone. And then I still get it wrong often and about half of the time it's non-coding stuff that I can't plan for that derails my estimate and half is weird bugs.

There's two kinds of programmers in my opinion: those that think it's fun (sometimes) and those that think it's just a job. The ones that enjoy it are going to make quality stuff and the others don't really want to do it at all so of course it's a pleasant shortcut to them.

My theory is that when they had to pay the artist, they were picky because they paid and felt entitled to get it done their way. Now with the AI, they are the "artist" so they are proud of "their" work and thus less likely to be critical about it.

We had this game as a kid but we bought it second-hand so we didn't have the manual and some of the puzzles were definitely harder without it.

I agree. I saw some at a stall in a food court type restaurant and immediately left for the place with similar food and real photos on the other side of the place. Like is it really that hard to take photos of your own food? I'd rather have a crappy photo of real food than nonsense that isn't real.

Reading what you said instantly brings to mind a whiny nasally voice asking "why doesn't it animate the attacks like Hearthstone".

I do think an exception is tutorials. If a card jumps from one place to another when I click on it and I'm still learning the game, I may not understand where it went or why and animations can make that more clear. But there are also other ways of clarifying that without animations too so...

"tight responsive controls" in your context means that if the player clicks to do something, that thing is instantly done. That feels better. Objectively. It may not always look as nice but it almost always feels better because the response is immediate and not delayed.

That is disheartening, yes, but try searching for a coding job in this environment. It's even more disheartening and demoralizing. I had a job interview on Friday and they loved me but their feedback was "be more enthusiastic about AI".

I understand that feeling. When I talk to anybody outside the games industry and mention I play games, they always want to know what I play. I usually evade the question and when I don't I just get this weird look like I'm the weird one for playing something other than FIFA/COD/etc...
