Kohl was also less corrupt than Reagan (derogatory to Reagan).

I don't mean internal American political parties. I mean the US's global role.

The US is the CDU or UK Conservative Party of the world (derogatory).

This isn't American narcissism, we have these types all over Western Europe. They take positions based on what maximally pisses off people who Did The Right Thing in their lives. They were anti-Deutsch when Germany hadn't yet come to terms for the Holocaust and are anti-Semitic now that it has.

Basically, the French government needs to look at everything the rock throwers demand it do and do the exact opposite. It should rate its success by how pissed off the rock throwers are (and of course mass arrest them; 17-year-olds can still go to prison for terrorism).

Their borders are already decently open to e.g. Eastern European migration. The Ukrainians could come, they just come to Germany and Poland instead because we have lower unemployment. So they need to also make their labor market more flexible to allow hiring outside the usual networks.

They use Claude Code a lot, and quite a lot of the userbase is anti-AI to the point that someone gets banned for death threats against the mods over this periodically.

Turkey has one generic liberal party and one party that wants Turkey to be governed the way Putin governs Russia. The latter is in power.

The poll you're citing from 2024 is impossible (Stein didn't get enough votes). Look instead at this poll: www.newarab.com/news/harris-... There was very little Muslim redshift from 2020 to 2024, less than the Asian and Hispanic redshifts.
newarab.com
Harris won most US Jewish votes, lagged behind with Arabs
Trump’s efforts focused on discouraging both Muslim and Jewish voter turnout, a strategy that may have paid off.

It's actually very simple. To win, Germany needed not to attack the USSR or US. To do that, it needed not to be run by Nazis. To do that, it needed to remain social democratic in the 1930s. Now let's talk about the WTB plan and how SPD could have invented Keynesianism a few years ahead of schedule.

And honestly - and this is where Said's analogy of Islamophobia to anti-Semitism shines - it's not too different from how Jews were under permanent suspicion of communism in the 20th century while communists were tarred for being Jewish even while the USSR promoted anti-Semitic propaganda.

I think they're synonymous, in the sense that the perception that he's far left is really about his Muslim background. (This is also from the left itself - El Sayed supports two states in the Southwest Levant, a position the GPEW and most of the DSA IC treat as Zionist and illegitimate.)

That was also true 20+ years ago; the Onion News Network's Bomb New York song was satirizing something real.

Any time up until three years and a day ago, if I'd heard a person on the Elizabeth line talk on the phone in Hebrew about material engineering, I'd complain about loud Israelis. But now, I just noted that he was living in London judging by what he said and felt safe speaking Hebrew on the train.

Don't talk to me like you're a cop interrogating me. I'm not a criminal or a criminal suspect. If you want to say something about Cooper, say it yourself, @ OP, and don't say "you agree with me" when I didn't mention him or the NC race in my comment at all.

Yes, and Wagenknecht left Die Linke out of objections to immigration, gay rights, and environmentalism. She also became more-tankie-than-thou, while Die Linke used her departure to pretend to Linke/Green undecideds that it's no longer tankie (in fact, it's still thoroughly tankie).

I don't know Rogers enough to know if he's overperforming or El Sayed is underperforming; my vulgar suspicion is that it's the latter but maybe someone from the area can give better reasons why it's not.

In Germany, activists did manage to do it in the late 2010s; the carbon tax and the ban on new ICEs at the EU level by 2035 were consensus affairs. The right then made a decision in 2022-23 to declare environmentalists as its main enemy in the Ukraine War, for domestic sectional reasons.

This can't rate the Democratic candidates alone - it has to simultaneously rate both parties' candidates. In Maine we're seeing Collins overperform, as she did in her past election; in Texas we're likely seeing Paxton underperform.

And so it begins: the very first proposal of the new regional parliament in which the AfD is the strongest faction is about an immediate end to sanctions against Russia and the normalisation of relations. (Which, of course, they cannot decide at the regional level.) www.spiegel.de/politik/deut...

Yes they do? "Syria? Homs? Palestine!" was a take I saw in comments from a communist in response to demands that Obama do something about Assad's massacres of Syrians early in the Syrian Civil War.

I just wish they didn't make up excuses to justify what they did in the second half of 1941. There's a reason 95% of Lithuanian Jews were killed in the Holocaust.

Yep. If you're being invaded, the regular army that's attacking is always a bigger danger than domestic morons. Tellingly, its open pro-Russian actions are at this point the biggest reason people call for an AfD ban. But even then, the budget goes to Ukraine aid first. bsky.app/profile/glob...

There are certain expressions that get a bad reputation because they're used by Nazis (or by communists but that's less common) even when they're perfectly good or perfectly dumb without that context. E.g. "First the traitors, then the invaders" is a stupid ideology even devoid of the Nazi context.

Germany is my ideal example in that a left-wing party that behaved like the GPEW would be dissolved as an anti-constitutional anti-Semitic party. Even a right-wing party, subject to far more support from right-wing civil society, is in danger of being banned (danger to itself, hope for us).

It's a very small comfort that Yair Netanyahu is so repulsive that he can't do this - after Netanyahu goes away, the right will have to go back to being a normal right-wing political party.
