OTD in 1992, Rigoberta Menchú won the #Nobel Peace Prize for "her work for social justice & ethno-cultural reconciliation based on respect for the rights of #indigenous peoples." She used the prize money to establish her foundation to champion Indigenous rights in #Guatemala & across the globe.

Color photograph of Rigoberta Menchú Tum, the Indigenous Guatemalan human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, smiling warmly. She wears traditional Mayan clothing: a vibrant, multicolored huipil richly embroidered with intricate floral, bird, and geometric patterns in shades of green, red, blue, yellow, and purple. A matching red-and-green striped twisted scarf adorns her head, and she accessorizes with long earrings and a bold red beaded necklace featuring a large circular silver pendant. The background shows lush, dense green foliage and mountainous terrain, suggesting a rural setting in Guatemala. Her joyful expression radiates strength, pride, and resilience.
