iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

He he, never miss an opportunity to sneak the ol' OCs into a study... though does it count as "sneaking" if they become the focal point of the piece? 🤔😂 Thanks for looking and you can catch the process video next week!

Fun fact: I actually scanned these at the library - did you know you could do that... for free? 🤯 Beats paying for it at Kinkos/FedEx! 😛 Reference photo: @midwestmodern.bsky.social

most of the work I do is digital, and even when I do work traditionally, the traditional elements are so buried in the digital final product that the quality of the photo/scan doesn't really matter... 😅

Allison Perry @allisonperryart.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

This is the first ink drawing I've scanned instead of just taking a photo of, so please let me know what you think about the treatment 🤔👂

Allison Perry @allisonperryart.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

More analog ink drawing: this time, a simple building facade in just black ink - the graphic read was clear enough on this one I didn't think it needed a midtone! 🖤🤍

#ThrowbackThursday to some of my favourite architectural features to paint - terracotta roofs & stucco walls! Something about that red-orange against the whites & creams just hits different! Really wanted to push the simplification of detail/texture on this one - especially on the dome in the back!

Organic things like tree branches on the other hand have an element of randomness and imprecision that can start to look stiff real fast if you get too precise and in your own head about it - to me it almost feels like I'm forcing myself to paint "badly..." 😅

100

Allison Perry @allisonperryart.bsky.social · 27/08/2026

Process from last week: believe it or not, tree branches are kind of challenging for me - especially this close up. 😅 People often think things like buildings are hard to paint because they're so rigid and precise, but ironically that's actually why I find them easier to paint.

I can never pass up an opportunity to paint the beautiful, fiery light passing through the leaves of an autumn tree, especially as we're slowly getting into autumn... hope it cools off soon! 🍂

More analog ink drawing - now with grey! Do you know the location? I feel like this one's admittedly pretty obvious... loved the clearly differentiated foreground leading into the focal point on this one, though! Reference photo: @jessiejuwono.com

Maybe a longer sequence was planned at some point? I'm not sure... always love an opportunity to add some character into otherwise mundane props like a credenza or box fan, though! Thanks for looking, and catch Stranger Things: Tales from '85 on Netflix! Production Designer: Benjamin Plouffe

More work from Stranger Things: Tales from '85 - this time, continuing out from Will's room is... the hallway outside of Will's room, ha ha! Honestly not sure how much of this we even saw in the final show - I think there's only glimpses of it through Will's open bedroom door...

This is the first one I did: it's the facade of the Jim Henson Company Lot - could you tell? 👀 Admittedly it's already looking a little rough to me, but I'm proud it was the start of this little journey, so I wanted to share it! 😅🥰

Allison Perry @allisonperryart.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

Like how I started with my digital landscape paintings about 10 years ago (can't believe it's been that long), I'm just trying to keep these quick, small (~5" on the longest side), and low-stakes, so they're not all hits, but I thought I'd post some of the ones I like. 🥰

Allison Perry @allisonperryart.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

Being vulnerable for a second: all this AI stuff recently has kinda made me less excited about drawing digitally my free time, so recently I've picked up analog drawing again, and it's been a nice change of pace... even if I am pretty rusty, ha ha! 😅💖
