Britzer Gardens in Berlin has a large area of rhododendra planting, and I was delighted to spot this bunch of blooms poking out from under the shadowy canopy and catching the light so beautifully. A palm tree in Mallorca pops its head over the parapet of the Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani in Palma, Mallorca. I liked the odd combination of colours, shapes and textures. This beautiful flower, Lamprocapnos, jumped out at me as I don't think I'd seen anything quite like it before - perhaps understandable because it's native to China and the Korean peninsula! A spring blooming flower I spotted on labour day this year when we decided to do something a bit different to the usual Berlin street parties and instead left the city and headed down to canoe around the Spreewald with friends. This absolutely beautiful tree felt like it deserved a careful portrait as it stood there regally lit up by the low winter light, the full extent of its limbs on display and fully occupying the space. The undoubtedly impressive interior of the cathedral in Palma must be up there in high ceilinged places in the world. That must be a real pain for cleaning cobwebs. A quick check on Wikipedia tells me that it is in fact the 8th highest nave in the world, at a height of 40 meters! Buy Print

I'm not sure why I find frozen things so fascinating - something about the temporarily locked state, the moment when everything finally ground to a halt and stopped moving around. In this case, instead of it being a macro image, this shows the surface of a frozen lake - where not just the water itself had been locked in place, but also incidental objects that were present at that moment. It was only when I finished processing this photo that I noticed its resemblance to the tip of a pencil! Now I can't unsee it. This is in fact a piece of architecture that juts out of the structure at the base of the Berlin TV Tower (Fernsehturm), and with a clear blue sky above it was begging for abstraction. Buy Print

A beautiful Muscari, aka grape hyacinth spotted in the Samariterkiez neighbourhood on a little walkabout in spring 2026. Such delicate little flowers, named, understandably, for their resemblance to a bunch of grapes! I'm not sure exactly which species of muscari this one is - apparently they're quite hard to tell apart. Buy Print

Coniferous trees grow straight up like arrows in an attempt to outdo each other and get the most sunlight. Everything underneath has to make do with dappled light breaking through the canopy. Certainly not my preferred forest type when compared to the beauty of a natural deciduous or mixed forest, but there's something about all these straight lines that draws your eye up and up and up. The great reed warbler has an absolutely enchanting song and every time I've heard it I've been captivated. However they have a tendency to sing from a place well-hidden from view (in among the reeds). So I'd never seen one until we visited Britzer Garden in Berlin and I got lucky - it was sitting on a branch above the lake reeds below singing its heart out. A beautiful bird with a wonderful gradient from white to a rusty brown on its underbelly - and boy can it sing! Buy Print

The idea of having a window without glass definitely seems a little alien to me, but they've done a beautiful job with both the beautiful ornamental grille, but also the cast design around the window itself. Spotted on one of Palma de Mallorca's many small winding streets. Buy Print

The foreshortening effect of a 600mm equivalent zoom causes this interestingly coloured Berlin apartment block to appear to have some very strange proportions with its windows seeming to be too close to each other. Buy Print

An ever diminishing piece of ice floats past in the languid current of the Wisła river. I was so delighted by the gradual gradient of grey when I converted this to black and white, such a satisfying slow tonal change. Buy Print

A small but delightfully beautiful bloom from the genus Potentilla. As to which specific species it is, I'm at a loss as there are over 500 different species and a lot of them look very similar! Sometimes they're called cinquefoils, presumably due to having five petals, although some species have 3, and some have up to 15. This flower was seen in the wonderful Britzer Garten in Berlin. A beautiful golden light bathed the Acropolis as I walked down from Philopappos Hill in Athens where I had spent time in contemplation after the funeral of my aunt. It was impossible to not pause for a while and soak up the weight of history laid out before me. Buy Print

Quite different from my recently posted Duct Detail, this beautiful male mallard duck was an irresistible subject with its iridescent plumage standing out beautifully against the blurred background of the lake. I'm probably anthropomorphising when I saw that the duck definitely seems to be pretty happy - that slight upward curve at the base of its bill really makes it look like it's smiling! Buy Print

Another shot of Abul Mogard (right) performing with Rafael Anton Irisarri (left) at their workshop in Morphine Raum. Slightly annoyingly all my shots from this workshop had some slight banding due to the lighting in the space. I had switched over to silent shutter to not be disturbing things, but also hadn't closely checked the resulting photos so I didn't miss anything. Swifts careen through the Palma skies at sunset (hopefully eating mosquitoes?). Small and instantly recognisable black silhouettes against a dusty pink and orange sky, with a city skyline dominated by the Palma cathedral. Buy Print

It kind of looks like some crazy coral reef, but is in fact a small part of a very unusual sculpture spotted at the Affordable Art Fair in Berlin. It's a great event and we will be making sure to attend it every year from now on. Amazed we missed it until now! Buy Print

This dramatic deep purple tulip appears to be replete with pinpoints of light which, I'm fairly sure, must be pollen speckles shining in the strong summer light, and standing out against the dark colours of this beautiful flower. Buy Print

The old ice factory in Berlin sits on the banks of the river Spree silhouetted by the afternoon sunlight. Built in the early 1900s, the factory operated until 1990. Since then it has gone through numerous demolition and renovation plans, and eventually seems to have started a renovation process, although I believe it is still undergoing. A stunning Sumatran Tiger Cub practices stalking in his enclosure in Tierpark Berlin. Whilst this beautiful cub has been born into captivity, it is a sadly necessary thing for the preservation of this critically endangered species. From what I have read, Tierpark works with a variety of other zoological facilities to help with creating stable reserve populations of the species to assist with its conservation in the wild. I hope that one day we can see the conservation status of this stunning animal improve. Buy Print
