@gailsimone.bsky.social A shout out to the time when I went to a panel, was mistaken for a press photographer (I was dressed terribly and had a big camera), and got to meet Gail. It was fun. Would recommend. I didn't stand in line once that entire convention.

I'll take your advice and see how it lands. Who knows? Maybe people will think it's funny. It probably serves as a nice warning for people who aren't expecting to see random rants on weight loss, or how fitness influencers are full of shit.

Ah, it was a 3D printed pen that accepted multiple different types of cartridges and refills so it could be tailored to their individual preferences, not a system for refilling. The actual design made it so you didn't need to grip, and it was easier to control, plus the balance was further forward.

Fascinating stuff. Maybe you would know, what is their criteria for a death at less than one year old? Are they including children dying during birth? Miscarriages very late in pregnancy? Because if you do ages 1-18 the numbers look radically different.

According to the CDC and the chart attached, the number one cause of death for children is accidents. Specifically, car accidents. More children die from accidents than suicide and and homicide combined. Hanging and poison are quickly becoming the preferred methods of suicide for adolescents.

A pro tip for my #fitness friends: Gaining weight while on a diet can be a good thing, if not a great thing. It's normal to worry that your diet isn't working if your weight goes up. But overall health is what matters, and having faith in the process is key. Let me use a real world example,

It's amazing how the right person can bring it out of you. I wrote this in a Chilis, to explain to my girlfriend why I spent so much time tending to the garden.

"Acta non verba"

The wrong always seems to find my tongue.
Then I think for hours on what I should have said, could have said, didn't say.

Let me grow our love in rows and groves.

Did I just lose 8 pounds in six days? Nope. I actually lost 3. Let me explain. Glycogen makes up 5% of muscle mass. When you lower carbs, like on a high protein modified fast, it is depleted. Once you go off the diet, the fat stays gone. But the muscles fill up again. Which is pretty much ideal.
A readout from a scale showing that I went from 208.3 to 200.4 in less than a week.

Warning! Nerdy fitness stuff ahead. I need to work on my grip, and the best way to strengthen any muscle (just talking strength, not hypertrophy) is by raising the amount of weight. You need to increase the weight, to increase strength. Now, one very important thing to note about grip strength.

Does the BINGO song refer to the dog, or the farmer? "There was a farmer had a dog, And Bingo was his name-o." My take? While it's ambiguous in the modern song, Bingo referred to the dog in the original. Therefore, Bingo is the dog.
The earliest reference to any form of the song is from the title of a piece of sheet music published in 1780, which attributed the song to William Swords, an actor at the Haymarket Theatre of London.[4][5] Early versions of the song were variously titled "The Farmer's Dog Leapt o'er the Stile", "A Franklyn's Dogge", or "Little Bingo".

An early transcription of the song (without a title) dates from the 1785 songbook "The Humming Bird",[6] and reads: This is how most people know the traditional children's song:

The farmer's dog leapt over the stile,
his name was little Bingo,
the farmer's dog leapt over the stile,
his name was little Bingo.
B with an I — I with an N,
N with a G — G with an O;
his name was little Bingo:
B—I—N—G—O;
His name was little Bingo.
