🤣 I meant paper notebooks 📒 that I write in with an ink pen. 🤔 Added photo for other uses like helping liberate spider friends who are just a bit too big to stay inside for their own good. N.B. If spiders are an issue I will delete this response. 🙂
Sweet spider friend in a glass awaiting liberation outdoors where it would risk less harm. Underneath is the orange-yellow cover of a small Rhodia notebook that serves various purposes including making lists. This specific spider was actually found on my shoulder and had various escapades prior to liberation. 🤔

Nice article on rewilding and the many ways it can work towards preventing fires and floods. Looks much more like a world I would like to inhabit, in particular the paragraphs below on revitalising and the role of wild animals. 🥰 rewildingeurope.com/news/rewildi...
For thousands of years, Europe’s landscapes were shaped by large herds of wild herbivores. Grazing, browsing and trampling created a constantly shifting mosaic of grassland, scrub and woodland that supported rich biodiversity, while limiting the build-up of vegetation that could fuel large, intense fires. Today, human impacts mean most of these natural grazers have disappeared, while rural depopulation and land abandonment have contributed to declining livestock numbers. With fewer animals grazing the land, dense vegetation has accumulated across millions of hectares, increasing the fuel available for wildfires.

Restoring natural grazing is not only about bringing back large herbivores such as European bison, wild horses and Tauros. It also means allowing common species such as red, roe and fallow deer, elk and ibex to recover to densities where their grazing and browsing can significantly shape vegetation. Across much of Europe, intensive hunting and forestry practices have suppressed herbivore populations, limiting this important ecological role. Restoring more abundant and diverse herbivore communities can reduce the build-up and continuity of combustible vegetation, creating more varied landscapes that can slow the spread and intensity of wildfire.

The paragraph on revitalising alone. I would like to live in this world.

I'll never forget this TdF for Wout in 2022. How often does the green jersey lead the yellow and white in the TdF up an HC climb? 🥰 And I think the day before was Kuss leading the train to him to finish off after years of pulling yellow jerseys to the line in multiple races. 🤯

🥰 I actually have Les Triplettes De Belleville as my ringtone because it makes me happy when I hear it. Also, first thought the other day when the article on the Broom Wagon appeared was the image of the woman with the dog riding behind. That film has clearly made a permanent home in my brain. 🤔

Ok. I have been wanting to reshare this photo someone shared on the other site ages ago as this is how I've been feeling about it all. You know not really, but really. 😕
A photo shared on the other site many years ago during the Tour de France depicting a sign made with a cardboard box top corded to a post that reads: 'VELOS DE MERDE. Sport de Cons'. In English loosely translated as: 'Crap bicycles. Sport of idiots'. I don't really believe this, but I understand the sentiment and where it comes from.

If you see this share a #randomshelfie #booksky
Lying on a brown wooden table is a Petit Larousse Illustré from 1908 with a cloth type cover in pink, brown, and white tones including an image of a dandelion above the caption ‘Je sème à tout vent’. There are also black ink splatter marks from an old pen at the top of the spine. Behind the book, part of my bookshelves are visible showing works by multiple authors from Eluard to Condé to Rabelais. The form of books range from magnificent Gallimard Œuvres complètes to basic folio white paperbacks. I love my books. So many more to share but I will stop here.

Oh no doubt there. Very true it is a tradeoff. I think I saw your post about heating elsewhere. And animals in the ceiling can sound like they are bowling sometimes. 😬 This is my dream tile stove (often in the Swedish homes I obsess over).

Found them because I am obsessed. 🤔 They were along this really lovely path in Burlats, France. Looks like marking distance, but no idea who or why as the Internet is now broken. 😒

Tunnel along path in Burlats, France, again, no idea who used it and why and would love to know, but Internet searches are sadly no longer useful.Side of stone marker along trail in Burlats, France showing roman numerals that go in sequence from one marker to another so marking distance, but no idea why or by whom. Yes. Evidently they are put in place to protect the local environment for regrowth and such, but not sure how they work long-term given the French obsession with hunting. 😢

really don't have the energy at the moment. Here are just a couple from the bunkers at Capbreton and the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise in Paris. I do love how the bunkers have become another space of creativity and expression, like they have been reimagined. Apologies for the poor alt-text, no energy.

Frog peeking out from behind a leaf gesturing with his middle finger. Underneath the caption reads 'F*CK HUMANS', evidently a campaign by Greenpeace Denmark to bring attention to mass extinctions and human treatment of animals. There are similar images with other animals on their website: https://act.gp/2IT0as1

It was amazing. 40+C temps, the roads on the way melting and being sprayed. My health wasn't great, but made it there in the heat anyway and I am so glad just to be able to have been there when Wout was being Wout and to experience the rest. Also Ganna smiling as he passed. 🥰

all the rest fly by right after B Thomas was caught in front of the Welsh flag for G Thomas. Point is the caravane is massive and people go mad trying to collect the 💩 they throw as they pass by. Fascinating, impressive, but also depressing thinking of the waste. Anyway, a day I'll never forget. 🥰

Happened to be in Carcassonne in 2022 staying along the route where every vehicle related to the tour arrived [took hours] and where they left -- people even stand on the road to watch the caravane depart the city. Also made it to about 2km to watch Wout in green Jonas in yellow and ⬇️
Photo of riders arriving just before the 2km banner in Carcassonne at the 2022 TdF. If you zoom in you can see Wout in green and Jonas in yellow with many other riders including G Thomas and C Laporte. Again, not a great photo, but the moment was captured. :)

Once again as it is the anniversary of D-Day and I have had the word « Liberté » in my head lately, this Paul Éluard poem of the same name keeps popping into my head. First published in « Poésie et Vérité », 1942. See next few posts below for the entire image and links to text in French and English.
Fernand Léger’s illustration of Paul Éluard’s poem « Liberté » written in 1942 during the German occupation of France. The last stanza of the poem is visible in this crop of the larger version with the entire poem.

« Et par le pouvoir d’un mot
Je recommence ma vie
Je suis né pour te connaître
Pour te nommer

Liberté. »

-Paul Éluard, « Poésie et Vérité », 1942

English translation:

‘And through the power of a word
I begin my life again
I was born to know you
To name you

Freedom’

You know you are poor, living with intense pain, and inadequate medical care when you cut up your pilates mat and yoga socks because you can't afford therapeutic shoes and it hurts too much to walk barefoot around your house. Not sure if it is a good idea or just sad. To laugh or to cry? 🤔
Sad looking DIY 'therapeutic shoes' made from cutting up a grey Décathlon pilates mat placed in lighter grey grippy yoga socks with the toes cut off. One shoe is upward facing and the other faces downward to show the grippy soles. 😩

Actually elle is referring to the 'marque' de Nutella. The article refers to it as 'le' later on and then there is this [see image below]. So evidently a debate in France as well. Good thing we have important subjects to debate these days. 🤣
Explanation of the naming of Nutella explaining the feminine Italian origin, usual use of it in French as masculine and mentioning that in Germany it has no gender as it is a brand and so either can be used.
