This year's record setting El Niño will impact many different parts of the world, with some experiencing severe drought and others flooding. In a new analysis at The Climate Brink, I explore what impacts happened during past events and which are most likely to occur this year

The impacts of this year’s record-shattering El Niño
El Niño will drive severe drought from Indonesia to the Southern Africa and northern South America, with wetter winters from the US Gulf Coast to Southern South America.

If you want 1.5C, 1.8C, 2C, overshoot, no-overshoot, etc, then they all require the same thing: rapid short-term emission reductions reaching net zero CO2 emissions as soon as possible. This has been clear from the IPCC Special Report on 1.5C, which depicts "overshoot" on its cover! 1/

I wrote my thoughts about the current heatwave in Europe in a small post. I think there could be something potentially positive in the fact that Europe was hit by the heatwave this summer, as "positive" as it can be when people, animals, life, nature suffer... alexborger.com/blog/europe-...

Summer 2026, Heatwave in Europe — alexborger.com | Alex Borger
I think there is something potentially positive in the fact that Europe was hit by the heatwave this summer: it can help raise much more awareness of climate change.

The carbon budget for holding 1.5 °C is almost gone, yet the path is known: emissions must fall to net zero by 2032 to limit warming to 1.5 °C, or by 2050 to limit it to 1.7 °C. The hard part is whether a species clever enough to measure the danger is wise enough to answer it.

I think AI does not multiply everyone's coding ability equally. Multiplier ≈ existing judgment × ability to decompose × ability to verify output.
