Allowing Open AI to call these “rogue agents” lets them dodge responsibility - they made them, directed them and set them free without caring about the consequences. Our laws need to catch up to hold them accountable before worse happens.

So basically the Albanese government’s position on AI data centres is that we can’t miss out on a ‘boom’ that will result in another fuckton or two of carbon emissions and slop, and take away lots of people’s jobs, but you might get a 12 month job helping to build one 👍🏻👍🏻

🚨🚨🚨BREAKING: ASIO no. 2 is being rushed through parliament this week. This is the bill that allows warrantless questioning by ASIO, without a lawyer, and you can't tell a soul without being sent to prison. Share this widely and make some noise.

The political class in Australia, and in most western democracies, has become a closed circle of career operatives who cycle through state and federal politics and the lobbying swamp before finishing their working lives on lucrative retainers typically in the defence or extractive industries.

Keep public services and utilities in govt hands: “…Public goods are not a source of profits. And we need to stop pandering to the whims of con artists who for over 40 years have destroyed a social fabric in the name of profits. Public services should once again be owned and run by the public.”

There is a need to develop a system of authenticating human decision making, creativity and artisanal making independent of AI that will assure the value of that human activity above machine and algorithm based output.

I’m still looking forward to AI making my work easier and more efficient. So far it’s only made it harder because clients use it to generate incomprehensible briefs, that they think makes them sound like they know what they’re talking about, which I then need to decipher and advise otherwise.

Housing should be for living in, not for hoarding. Every home owned purely as a speculative asset is one less home for someone who needs one.

There has not been any consideration of a mechanism to support a potential larger permanently unemployed pool, such as a form of universal basic income. The current job support system providers will be the sole beneficiaries as they sign up larger client numbers with no prospect of employment.

The defining characteristic of Australian government for many a long year now is lack of imagination, the inability to think beyond whatever was already the problem. Albo's AI speech is another example. (And also successful media management) Mine for MWM michaelwest.com.au/albaneses-ai...

If politicians had really wanted to address the potential impact of AI on individuals, communities and economies and the environment they would have already had legal frameworks in place to manage those impacts. Such issues as universal basic income to support the potential unemployed are missing.

Leaderlike. My @smh cartoon.
Single frame. Albo at a desk in a dark room with “OFFICE OF AI” on door, hunched up looking at laptop, says, “How do I deal with AI?” Response in computer speech comes: “That’s a great question, Anthony! I can see you really want to do the smart thing in spite of all the risks, climate implications and likely human cost. I can help you look past those inconveniences and focus on producing optimal outcomes for my owners while making you sound responsible and leaderlike. How does that sound?”

Hard to see that any detailed analysis of the long term community benefit of wholesale facilitation and adoption of AI in Australia has been undertaken. This is a public bet on a broad technology searching for a significant problem to solve where the risk and personal impact is borne by individuals.

A 10% fall in house prices would take affordability back to 2023 levels. So let's stop the fricking scare campaigns that the CGT changes will destroy the economy. They are the start of a very long road to recovery www.theguardian.com/business/gro...
Twenty-six years ago, the average dwelling price in Australia was equal to nine years and four months’ worth of per-capita household disposable income. In the first three months of this year, the average dwelling price of $1.11m was equivalent to 17 years and four months of current average household disposable income.

If dwelling prices were 10% lower, they would be equal to 15 years and seven months – or where it was three years ago:
